I would disconnect the battery either way ... but if you need to slide the lock covers off to access the actual pins I wouldn't do that live. This was rear fog light/Byte 18 shenanigans:

The pins aren't real tight without the lock covers/guides but feel free to click through my Wiring (mess) album.

Not only European, USA is the same. Reasons are:

    1. there is a lot of BS on warranty work (following GFF to the T, sending diagnostic reports, waiting for authorization, etc),

    2. warranty jobs pay much less than regular work and you cannot con the manufacturer .

Also, like in this case, warranty jobs are hard diagnostic cases and there is not so much diagnostic data yet (new car).

So, the modus operandi is to sell the customer a line of BS until he / she gets the message and goes away .

Me and my Volvo XC90, 10 (if not more) trips to the dealer, looooot of stuff replaced . Took a loooot of arm twisting though.

    Andy.

My favorite is the double DIP.

The dealer gets paid for the warranty and the customer pays.
Funny when the service advisors move to a separated terminal.............

or hey lets do the triple play......

Car comes in part is under warranty and can be fixed by programming update.

Part billed out to customer pay and warranty pays........ then part is sold to new customer that is out of warranty......

I know I used to go bust for it!
It happens more than you think and even with job #s.

A guy who knows both sides can see it real easy.......when they are all on the same day or the tech got screwed and not paid on the time tickets.
Than parts inspection.......The reason the hoops of fire exist is because of the white collar crime.

Double down is when it's a CAT.......They get the scrap core twice for hazardous waste removal and the actual scrap value.

I'm now wondering if the dealer told SEAT they replaced the interior monitoring sensor module and made a claim for the cost of the part but didn't actually replace it, so got warranty claim money for a part that wasn't actually replaced (i.e. phantom part replacement). I guess I will never know for sure but once you've discovered that a dealer has told you some lies then potentially everything else has been a lie as well. I shouldn't have to be going round the car writing down serial numbers of parts so I know whether or not any really have been changed when my car has been in for a repair. It's a shame the serial numbers are stored in the software and queryable by VCDS because then it wouldn't be so easy to try and cover up phantom part replacement if someone has historic scan logs.

I think I'll make a call to SEAT UK customer services and find out exactly what they have logged on their own system for this warranty repair job to see if it tallies up with what the dealer has been telling me. I'll also query a new replacement part having been supposedly fitted that has a manufacture date of 7 years ago (the car itself is a 2012 model so it's only 3 years old).

If it isn't communicating, why don't you just try to force an interior monitoring alarm? Roll down the windows, lock the car, wait a minute and then reach into the car. Done.

If it's working it will sound the alarm, if it isn't - then your dealer broke it instead of fixing it and you can easily reproduce it in front of them.

BTW: According to my information the latest firmware for your BCM is 5K0-937-087-R @ 2068, the only problem - I don't know if Seat actually published it or not.

Yes, have tried that already and nothing so it's definitely not working. I first noticed an intermittent issue with the interior monitoring sensor shortly after I purchased the car back in 2013 (see this thread) but back then I didn't have VCDS to get a list of any potential fault codes. It was only last year when I did purchase VCDS back in November last year that I was then able to scan the car and see that this module had been throwing intermittent 01135 fault codes since July 2013.

This is my very first VCDS scan on the car which was done back in November 2014...

There is also a visual indication that the system isn't working properly without even needing to do a scan. When you lock the car / arm the alarm, the red LED on the top of the door remains continuously lit for the first 30 seconds before it then starts flashing. Normal operation is that it starts flashing immediately when the system is armed. There is nothing in the owners handbook to indicate what this LED status means (there might be something in the repair manuals but I've not looked), although I've found information on a few forums stating that the initial continuous illumination of the LED means there is a fault with the system. I informed the dealer of this when the car went in for repair and after getting the car back home yesterday the LED is showing exactly the same status (continuously lit for the first 30 seconds) so I knew the fault still remained even before I did a VCDS scan. I wish I'd checked that before I drove off the dealer forecourt because I could have immediately gone back in and raised some questions.

    What a mess.

I've been on and off the phone half the morning and SEAT UK customer care have confirmed that the said dealership had indeed put in a warranty claim for a replacement interior monitoring sensor, but because there was no official report of the problem to SEAT, it means there has been no ongoing open warranty case about my particular issue. Apparently the dealership aren't responsible for opening a new warranty claim case. It is me that apparently needs to do that even though I knew nothing of the procedure and just trusted the dealer to take care of everything. It beggars belief how dealers can put though claims for warranty repairs without an open case

So the situation I am left in is that while I do now have an open warranty case for the issue as the result of my phone calls today, it must be confirmed as being a problem that is covered under warranty by a dealer within the context of this newly opened case. And this has to all be done in the next 9 days because my warranty expires on 11th April (and to add to the stress there is a 4-day public holiday in between). I have contacted a different dealer and have been informed that there will be a charge of 57 GBP + VAT to perform a diagnostics scan on the car first which I will only be able to reclaim if the issue is proven to be a valid warranty claim problem (a further call to SEAT UK has confirmed that this is standard procedure). I highlighted to SEAT UK that the original dealership never informed or imposed this on me and that surely the original dealership have already proven it to be a warranty issue by the fact that they have already done some work. However, because that work wasn't done under an open warranty claim case it is apparently irrelevant so I effectively have to start again from scratch under the newly opened case. Also, I've been told that if the new dealer I choose to use believes that any part of the problem I currently have was caused by the work the original dealer did then it may void any warranty claim. So it looks like where an incompetent dealer has failed to do a successful repair, you are either left with having to continue to use that dealer, or SEAT can start waving their get out of jail free card around.

My car is now booked into a different dealer next week with a risk that I may get stung for the costs of a diagnostics session and potential refusal by SEAT to fix the issue under warranty.

If this doesn't turn out in my favour then a call to the UK Trading Standards authority and any other relevant legal bodies may well be on the horizon.

I'm not sure if this will help you but I disconnected this sensor on many cars, customers and my own (BMW, Audi, VW). They failed often and drain battery, cause the alarm to turn on, especially in extreme temperatures. On my own BMW, the damned thing would cause the alarm to go off 10 mins after you lock the car.

I do get what you're saying but I feel that everything should at least be fully working even if I do voluntarily choose to switch something off. If you pay for something then I want a fully working product and am entitled to have that while it's still within its warranty / guarantee period.

I've just done something which has produced an interesting result.

I decided to locate and pull the 5A fuse (SC17) mentioned earlier by Jef so I could check its state. It wasn't blown so I just put it back in again. After doing this I armed the tested the arming of the alarm, and lo and behold the alarm status LED on the door was back to flashing immediately again with no initial 30 seconds of being constantly lit. I thought I was onto something so I did a new scan of the car. The "Subsystem 3" item was back again (Innenraumuebe 010 4974) and the existing 01135 faults had changed from permanent to "intermittent" along with an additional 03266 intermittent open circuit fault code for the alarm circuit (to be expected after having removed a fuse)...

So it seems that the supply from the fuse was either intermittent or the removal and re-application of power from that fuse kicked something back into life. If it has been the former then I would have expected to see the 03266 fault code on previous scans so I'm not really any the wiser as to what removal and refitting of the fuse actually did. I guess I will keep an eye on it over the next few days in case this part of the "fix" is just temporary.

I cleared the codes then armed/disarmed the alarm a few times and did another scan...

Now I just seem to be left with a 01135 fault code of "014 - Defective - Intermittent". If I clear the codes then this one just comes back again and further diagnosis shows that each time I arm/disarm the alarm, the frequency counter of this fault gets incremented by 1 each time I do that. So there is still a fault with the interior monitoring sensor subsystem but it seems to be not as bad as it was before (at least not for now).

I'm not going to fiddle any more and will leave it to the dealer to do the remainder of any diagnosis work next week. I'll report back once I know more.
