    How to...sri

Hello there, this is going to be my very first inquiring to you guys. I would like to understand the SRI window.

About Chn 45 Oil quality the field: Unit is blank Why? then, current value is: 1 and field New value is: 1. I don't understand what these values represents. for instance chn 42 and 43 talk about distance (Km or Miles ??? ) the field New Value data is 50. what is 50? I assume is 50 Km or miles but that cant be right.

After carry out an oil change in this vehicle I ran the SRI reminder indicator Now the field new Value have change to 2. I don't really understand what the software really mean by 2. for sure it did reset the SRI

then I ran operation: "Change to fixed Intervals (miles) now channel 51 the field Unit have change to days and Current val to 372. is it more than a year 365? I am getting confuse.

I am not used to VAG -COM way to troubleshoot. which I find kind of different to others systems (Ford, GM, Asians) please any comment will be very welcome.

Because there are not units for oil quality. 1 is typically normal oil and 2 is "extended life" oil suitable for flexible service intervals, except NAR model cars aren't set up for flexible intervals; in some cases they lack some of the sensors necessary for that.

    The unit there is "miles x 100" so 50 x 100 = 5000 miles.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Oh Ok. that's what I thought. Thanks. So, when doing a 5 k service ( oil change and something) regular good quality oil = 1 is it possible to keep it on 1 and how? I understood value = 2 extended life is for let say synthetic oil. what if a do not use Synth but regular. in the operation combo box there are many other lets call them set ups do you guys have a VDCS manual or some sort of applications dictionary for it? that I can buy or read? thanks again for your prompt responses.

For fixed intervals the Oil Quality should be 1. There should be a job in the drop-down box that's something like "Change to Fixed Intervals USA/Canada". It should include setting oil quality to 1. When you actually service the car, there should be a simple reset job. Unfortunately, it's difficult to provide you with any specifics since the specifics vary by car model and year, and you didn't provide use with a scan.

I totally agree.. we do know the maintenance schedule for every car in the nation that's why I am so interested in understanding this feature.
I am thinking this is the way I should go with our VW / Audi Customer ( implementing "Change to Fixed Intervals miles") . since our customer consider this an important feature in their maintenance car basis. I am normal to American Asian car diagnostic tool also i am a quick learner and I like VCDS.

I am normal to American & Asian car diagnostic tool where techs are able to reset according to mile and miles edging by systems. perhaps the 2007 VW Jetta that I was working on is a basic car for my questions, tomorrow we have 2 A6 Audi with drivability issues and also due for 90K miles maintenance. those have maintenance features for instance: brake pads % and thickness, Brake pads sensor reset etc. etc....

We have been using snap on scan Tools for this but I am positive now VCDS is a more suitable tool for them.
I managed to create a log since I am having issues publishing pics. this are the log files so far:

I managed to create a log since I am having issues publishing pics.
Excellent! They are much preferred over pictures for most purposes here.

NAR model VWs and Audis should always be on fixed intervals unless someone has messed with them.

On the car above, the only thing that should have been necessary to do is a "General Service Reset". However, on newer cars, particularly 2008+ Audis, things can get quite a bit more complicated. When you get one of those, post an SRI log from it as you did above and we'll teach you what's going on with them.

Since you're new to VCDS, here's a very basic tip: Make and save an Auto-Scan of each VW or Audi you work on as soon as it comes in the door; that way you have a record of it "as received" condition.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

The SRI values look normal but I will mention that N80 (the evap purge solenoid which is black plastic with 2 wires and 2 hoses on the intake manifold) solenoids in addition to the small (slave) cooling fans failed with great regularity if you are looking for any tips on the MIL.

Thanks Dana appreciate the tip, we did fix the car as you can see it in the last "code windows". I did it slower than regular repairs though, because of my learning VCDS curve, but I promise I 'll catch up....
