Cleaned out the sensor and blew some air in the tiny holes. They weren't too dirty but probably just enough to cause headaches. Regarding oil, is that why you suggest using oil different from spec?

Not sure what Canadian Diesel is like. Cetane is anywhere as low as 40 and somewhere around 46.

Yup
Over 10 years of testing on Audi/VW/+ other manufactures........ early systems such as PD , FSI........and CR engines.

This has proven to me that these proprietary oil specs are the actual cause for inducing 95% of the problem........ in addition to the extended oil change timeframe.

The numbers continue to grow in my favor showing I am right and I have bit my tongue long enough on it.

For the money I can do the oil change for peanuts with SAE more frequently.......... without a filter, and get far superior engine life + performance.

What does it say in your supplied service book for a requirement or gas door sticker......ever look?
Kind of funny when a manufacturer builds a car that recommends a minimum spec for fuel grade.......... that can't be had!

I seem to be the only one with a problem with this...........:p

Same problem on a VW Sharan CFGB

I know I have a problem with the NOx Sensor nº 2, I've deleted the fault several times, but it appears again. Once I've filled the Adblue tank the message doesn't disapeared .....

I've reset all the VCDS options but no success .... The car has 600kms left to stop :banghead:

Jack@European_Parts, have you got a detailed procedure to clean the NOx sensor??? it would be very useful.

By the way, I'm sure I have the last firmware of this engine, I updated the ECU module recently with the ODIS.

Well, i had an old customer drop by to get a VCDS plugged in. He complained AdBlue error in MFA. I suggested to find out first if there is software update available by the dealer. Dealer supposedly said there is some sort of update, but nothing conclusive that will tell if there is ECU update. Okay, he came to me to get faults.

At first, there was fault

Referring to this thread i suggested him to clean the NOx sensor and inspect AdPiss inejctor.

If he doesn't get it sorted, is there any value to inspect in MVB. The new UDS system sucks in terms of easy MVB inspecting.
PS. Tank is full and so also tells the sensor value in MVB. Car is Seat Alhambra(VW Sharan) -

It should be noted that sometimes cars are not driven at a steady enough rpm........ "for burn off"....... causing contamination of oil and probes or from short trip driving.

Bad news....got a mil light on again. No adblue warning yet though. But from the auto scan, looks like its soon to come. Reductant tank heater and flap valve show intermitent. Is this just the ECU having a brainfart not knowing what 15733 is? This is the auto scan I got from it.

Same bad news from me. Got a call. NOx sensor looked clean. Suggested to inspect injector too. No check engine light but range is ticking down.

Damn why does there have to be so idiotic system. Shows error, but no fault codes...... :@

Dealer item but I have the NOX sensors if ever needed.

I have seen the temp sensor have corrosion in the harness downstream.

Piss seems to be very corrosive and conductive in solidified bridge..

Also update from my side. Out of interest i called guy today-
Guy went to dealer and they performed software update as i suggested earlier.
AdBlue logo dissapeared, but also bad news. Tech went to perform test-drive and a younger girl did drive into the side of the car. Girl didn't observe signs and would of had to let tech pass and after that drive to road. She explained that she always thought that she has the right on that road and others have to let her pass.

Hi JAck

Once you've cleaned the NOX sensor, do you have to reset something in the ECU??? I'm afraid there must be something in the ECU that must be reseted ... any counter or something like that.

I think the original VAS equipment has to have a guided function to change the NOx sensor ... This function must reset something in the ECU.

DTC Codes for one and I like to recode to default the controller.............then run all basic setting tests or adaptions that are available to be done or just drive it.

You must get codes to clear first............. before any tests can be done going forward with adaptions.

2012-2014 NAR Passat(A32) TDI/CKRA – AdBlue Level Reset Procedure



Hello,

The following procedure is intended for all NAR spec Passat TDI (A32) vehicles from 2012 to 2014 with the CKRA - 103kW-140HP 2.0L TDI engine.


Please provide feed back on this as this is currently untested, thank you.


2012-2014 NAR Passat(A32) TDI/CKRA – AdBlue Level Reset Procedure

Prerequisites:
- Engine fully warmed up (above 80’C) and idling
- Transmission in Park/Neutral
- Emergency brake = On
- Doors and hood are closed
- Do not depress any pedals during this procedure, until instructed to do so.

To Reset the AdBlue Level:
- Clear all fault codes(yes, even if there are none present)
- Select 01-Engine]
- Select [Basic Settings-04]
- From the pull down menu choose:
- - - [Resetting of learned values of average quantity adaptation], press [Go!]
- - - - After completion, Press [Stop]
- - - Then [Reset learned values quant. meter. unit and press. contr. Valve], press [Go!]
- - - - After completion, Press [Stop]
- Select [Check of SCR efficiency], press [Go!]
- Depress Brake pedal, then depress accelerator pedal, the ECM should take control of the Engine speed.
- This test may take up to 30+ minutes to complete!
- Upon completion, you should see ‘System Okay’, the AdBlue light and the warning message about ‘miles to no start’ will be reset. Verify there are no fault codes.

Done, end…

Hi Jack,

I've been dealing with 15733 codes since I purchased my 2012 Passat. I bought my Ross-Tech cable primarily due to the CEL / Nox issue.

I've cleared the CEL and the code would pop up on road trips.

My first attempt / expedition for the Nox sensor was a few weeks ago, be before a 500 mile trip.

I was distracted when company showed up at my house, and I think I did a half ass job cleaning the sensor. I applied the torch for about 30 seconds. I since took that trip, and the CEL light came on, then the adblue 200 mile count down error came up. When I got home off the highway the adblue countdown stopped. I scanned and saw:

18627 - NOx Sensor 1 Bank 1
P2200 00 [096] - Electrical Malfunction
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:

15733 - SCR NOx Catalyst Bank 1

My wife has been running errands with the car locally for the past week or so, without the AdBlue warning...

I'm under the car this morning, and I thought I would check the AdBlue injector too. I removed it, and was unimpressed, as the business end didn't show any crystals or anything obvious. I reassembled with any further action.

The Nox sensor is pristine clean, the small holes are clear. I'm about to enlarge the holes and apply the torch for a longer duration. Then I will clear the codes. I will edit this post, if any new codes are in the engine module.

I beginning to think the next step is fixing it with a swipe of the old credit card for a new sensor purchase.

Any thoughts? I will be sure to post my continuing tale of Nox sensor woe...

Be advised that it is possible that the OXS sensor is also dirty when preforming a comparison to the NOX sensor.
Clean both with "oven cleaner" soaked for several minutes.......... then rinsed with distilled water.

Then I heat the sensor cherry red and reinstall.

Check the air cleaner/MAF and intake pipes for oil from improper remediation.

What is the oil level?

and

Is the oil with contaminates of fuel or water?


Please post a complete auto-scan for me to observe.
