2012 VW Passat Adblue reset

Posting this up, hoping someone can help out, i have a 2012 passat the low adblue indicator is on and will not go off despite filling tank to the top.

The first thing that i was informed to try was to leave the key on for 30 sec to a min in the on position without starting, then turn to the off position for the same time period. Then start the car to see if the light goes off. As of yet no luck.

Other things i have tried with the vagcom is to go to engine, basic settings, reset the scr lock and Resetting of SCR tank level detection? The first time i have done this it works without error, but the light remains, the next time i try it again without logging completely out, i get the error of "Service not supported in active session". So i log all the way out of vcds and am able to run again with the same results, ie successful, "Finished Correctly End system ok", but the light remains, 20 miles till no engine start.

I also tried the output tests on pump for reducing agents, the message i get is "Aborted for safety reasons"

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the light to go away or to reset the no restart portion, car was run low with adblue then sitting for winter. Do i need to prime the system somehow, disconnect the battery or ?

does this one have anything to do with it? i have other codes that are not related ie tpms, bulbs out etc, this is all im seeing that may be something?

Yes, I agree. That's why I was adamant about seeing an Auto-Scan, to see if there were any fault codes related to the reductant system. We had a guy with a ~2009 Touareg not that long ago who thought VCDS didn't work right because it couldn't reset his AdBlue light and mileage counter. Of course, there were actual problems with his AdBlue injection system. Unfortunately, this car doesn't seem to have any such fault codes. So the next thing to do is to start poking around the measuring values. After lunch, I plan to do some digging to see what values might be useful to look at. I will also have access to a 2013 NMS TDI next week.

1 thing comes to mind. What fluid did you use? This system has a reductant quality sensor. If it does not like the fluid you used it might not register the new level.

I wonder if this could be found out with VCDS.

OK, I'm stumped. Your ECU thinks the at least 78% full, or maybe 100%. Why you only have 25 engine starts and 29.95 km remaining is a puzzler.

I wonder if your ECU SW is up to date?

how would i check this or update it if it needs it? would letting it run in the driveway help it sense the fluid, i replaced the sensor and all fluid was out of the system when i put a new one in. Could this have anything to do with it?

The only way to be sure would be to let a dealer check.

I suppose it might, especially if the repair wasn't done properly. What's surprising is no DTCs.

I did find data from another 2012 car with the same ECU. It seems 25 engine starts remaining is normal, but the remaining mileage is not; that other car had 9095.25 km remaining.

Its running now see if a dtc pops up, maybe i need to drive it with no miles left to reset it this way or others mentioned?

9645, was the pressure to low, put in a new adblue sensor, and cleared it. no codes came back, just not sure if should leave the car running or not or if im limited on how many startups etc. ?

17262 terminal 30 open circuit? when i cleared the above this went away as well

is their coding when swaping this sensor out that needs to be done?

Please recode this ecu and see if it defaults this after a key cycle.

Make sure you change the WSC so you see the change and please make sure the tester# importer # and device # are setup in config.

Also 2157 looks like the update firmware was done from prior level, however, I am unsure if there is an update after this currently........but don't think so.

As Jack mentioned in #19, or delete DTC (even that there are none).
Other suggestions:
- Ignition ON for 10 minutes, OFF, then drive.
- Check Measuring Values "Status of reduction agent level" / "Status of a reducing agent warning" (if available!)
- Basic settings "Resetting of SCR tank level detection"
