Although I doubt the battery size is the source of your issues (if it load tested properly) but that sounds small to me. Most 4-cylinder gas VWs (old Mk4 1.8Ts up through modern Mk5/6 2.0Ts) usually have a 280 > 330 DIN battery installed from the factory which should convert to something close to 500 > 600 CCA.

I would expect something closer to 700 CCA in a TDI but hopefully someone can correct me if that's the battery we'd find from birth in a Caddy.

Well tonight I checked the CAN wiring where I spliced into, all looks ok there, checked wiring all round steering column, all looks ok, even checked the wiring where rear wiper motor was incase the wires were loose and earthing through the body, as it was when I put it in reverse that the problems started, but it's a plug, so all's good there, checking the steering assist module may be a little tricky due to location, but I'll give it a try tomorrow. Again thanks for all the advice guys.

Hi guys
Well today turned out better, checked steering assist module and found no power getting to module, so I started checking fuses again (with a multimeter this time) and found a blown 1, couldnt see it with the naked eye... it was a 5a fuse which powered:

traction control switch
tcs esp button
Brake light switch
Brake light relay
ABS control unit
Power steering control unit
left/right headlight range control motor
headlight control regulator

Thought a 5a fuse was a little small for all these?

I also changed byte 18 in 09 back to factory 00, from the 74 that kufatec told me to put in. what exactly does byte 18 do in 09 central electrics? not sure weather its made any difference at all..

And the nasty rattle coming from the engine was the "chip express" unit blown a fuse, removed the unit and all is good

I do have a couple off coding queries if anybody can help please..
when the lights are on sidelights just the DRL LED's are on, nothing else, is there sidelights in the bixenon? I have a bulb error light on the dash but vcds says its licence plate bulbs, which are error free LED bulbs, do I need some other licence plate light bulbs now? also when I turn a corner the headlights follow round the bend but there is another light that also comes on, shining a light further round the bend, is this a function of the lights or can it be turned off?

I can't answer the lighting questions because my Caddy experience is limited to the internet and a touch of Top Gear (although I don't think they ever covered this model, the Mk6 Yeti episode was cool). If you aren't sure what's what (stationary corning lights versus AFS steering functions) don't hesitate to post pictures. They may add some clarity to the wiring diagrams for the sheltered NAR crew stuck on the wrong side of the pond.

I see you have Byte 23, Bit 6 ticked in the long coding so you may want to disable that and enable Byte 17, Bit 7 for the LED plate light issue.

Hi Dana thanks for getting back to me again mate, had a look at Jef's Golf R issues, dam mice!!! glad I dont have that issue, may just get a cat to be safe

Thanks for the info on the number plate lights, that worked a treat, no more warning light on the dash

Ha ha think your right Dana, Topgear never covered the caddy, think they should have though

As for the lights, just about got them sorted, (not sure on the rear left blinker issue, all is working fine there (autoscan)),just the sidelights now, cant get them to come on yet, I'm fairly sure its coding or it would bring a warning up on MFD,

Got a few other faults I'm trying to sort, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the tail lights are incandescent bulbs you may have a flaky filament. I would unplug it or pull the bulb to make sure it still sets the same (M6) DTC, and providing it does just toss a new bulb in there and see what happens.

I took a look (here we go with the internet again) at a random 2011 Caddy video and you guys don't have parking lights/side markers in the front bumper .. so are those non-functional sidelights inside the headlights? The fender bulbs look like turn signals since they aren't in the mirrors.

Is Intermittent. I would clear it and see if they return.

37-Navigation
56-Radio
If you don't have a CD changer uncheck that in the LCH but if AUX-IN isn't wired/installed I would also uncheck that while you are in there.

The speaker DTCs are Intermittent so I wouldn't get excited abut those unless they return after clearing (unless you have an actual sound issue).

77-Telephone
Isn't coded to proper English so you might want to tweak that at some point. (My RNS-510 lady is pretty demanding "PLEASE SAY A COMMAND" so I should try standard English at some point)

I'm pretty sure the actual DTC is related to Byte 7 for the 3-button overhead console. If that isn't factory installed I would select drop-down option 10 in the LCH.

Well today turned out ok, replaced bulb and cleared that DTC, all good
Unchecked cd changer in navigation, changed dropdown menu to monitor just front speakers (as I dont have any in the rear)

77-Telephone, changed to "proper english" and changed to 10 in the drop down menu as you say and cleared all DTC's

Did and autoscan and hey presto NO DTC's!!!! first time in months.. Think I may print this out and put on the living room wall

Just sidelights now, and you guessed right Dana, their in the main headlight somewhere, think its the bulb closest to the front badge on the grill, its all it can be really, and again your right Dana they are turn signals in the fenders, Thanks for your continuous support with this. :thumbs:
