Hello everyone again,

A picture of which brake indicator was showing may have helped here... :rolleyes:

You could be low on fluid;
or, you should take a look at the engine vacuum system in general, but particularly at the brake servo. You don't want her to lose servo assistance when she needs it the most.

A test and basic setting of axillary brake servo vacuum pump can be done in 0x01-04-108 GO
( Ignition ON engine OFF and depressing the brake and gas to floor while in basic settings.)
Field 4 will be the result.

You need a firmware update...........

Component: 1.8L R4/5VT G 0004 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

It may help with the misfire codes..and CAT issue.

Vacuum pumps fail often or are just a hose leak at firewall....location next to power steering tank under plastic cover hiding.

I think it's strictly an instrument cluster switched / resistance check thing from the brake fluid level sensor, and won't show up on a VCDS scan. It's located in the fluid reservoir above the master cylinder. The warnings for worn brake pads, low coolant, and low windshield washer fluid are handled the same way. They won't show up on a VCDS scan either.

Anyway i can permanently turn off the warning?
Some of those inputs can be coded out (brake pads, and maybe windshield washer fluid?) but not this one. You could try to simulate that input electrically, but frankly it seems like a very bad idea. I would try to figure out and fix the cause properly.

I've seen this on my '04 Passat a couple times over the years, even though my fluid wasn't really low. It seemed to happen more on very cold mornings. I topped up just a bit anyway, and the warning went away. It could be a side effect of water being absorbed into the brake fluid, which happens over time. VW recommends that brake fluid be flushed every two years regardless of mileage.

I know you can code out the brake pad warning for sure, as well as the windshield washer fluid warning. But what i dont understand is why the brake fault isnt listed somewhere on a scan. How does VW know what to look for if this flashing brake light comes up?

Ours is not to reason why... :confused: It would be nice if DTCs and freeze-frames were stored, but they aren't. It may be due to age of the platform/design. Diagnostics have gotten better and more advanced over time. My two VWs are a bit older so I'm not sure how newer platforms handle this.

I think VW knows what to look for because, to the best of my knowledge, there's exactly one trigger for that warning: low brake fluid. Any ABS/ESP fault shows up with ABS/ESP lights in the instrument cluster, and IIRC, even a brake light switch fault shows up as an ABS/ESP fault (it's been a while so don't shoot me if I'm wrong). There really aren't any other electronically monitored things to look at in the brake system.

Excuse my fashionably late response (new member as of yesterday), but I had this problem a few years ago and it bugged the heck out of me. I know this sounds completely ignoramus of me, but check the brake pads. Mine needed to be replaced and the problem had dissipated. In reality the ABS sensors were getting to close to the rotors and the heat generated from braking would throw that light on.

Again, I know it sounds dumb, but just check the pads.
