Hello all, I have a 2012 tdi jetta and i am using the hex net system. I have tried to put my car in a regeneration cycle while sitting using the 27971 code. Once i put that in it wants me to do some sort of peddle combination to initiate the process and i can not figure out the combination for the life of me. Any help would be great. Thanks

This is my auto scan. I have tried to use the brake and gas but it does not tell me how long to hold each one or just to press each one. I have tried both and it doesnt start anything. I think my calculated soot level may be to high to allow the regen. Calculated soot is at 50.1 and Measured soot level is at 22.8. Thanks

If soot level is too high it will not allow a regen to prevent a fire.

Drive the car in a lower gear and raise the RPM for the next couple of days.

This way it will burn the ash and the air flowing by will cool the cat by convection.

Add Lubromoly diesel hi-test and purge to the tank.
Sometimes I run a cup of gasoline per tank in winter.

Consider changing oil more often with SAE oil and changing air filter more frequently to prevent blow by that causes soot pile up.

Run the oil level on low side of stick.

I'm on the road this weekend and don't have numbers handy, but my fuzzy brain thinks it remembers the threshold of "too high" being in the 40s. If that's correct, your calculated value is too high, but measured is not. I also have the notion that people have had better luck with the driving regen than the standing one.

Is there any way to trick the ecu that will allow me to for a regen? O thought I seen somewhere you can enter in a value somewhere or a drop down box that tells it you installed a new dpf filter

45g is the limit for soot, and I am pretty sure the computer treats the problem as greater of [calculated, measured]

so the computer will not let you start a DPF regeneration cycle, nor will it start one.

your choices are to remove the DPF, and have it cleaned, (http://www.dpfregeneration.com/ for example), or replace with new.

You also could lie to the computer so it thinks you have replaced the DPF, and are starting over.

this would reset the calculated soot, and the measured soot would call for a regen (or you could initiate one if you don't want to wait)

the danger, of course, with this, is you would be second guessing the VW engineers who think the risk of fire or of destroying the DPF is too great to run a regeneration on the car with over 45g f soot in the DPF.

you can google up "vw tdi dpf regeneration with too much soot" or such to gather a few hints.

If it was me, I would replace or have it cleaned.

how did it get so much soot in the first place? what was the problem?

VW is pretty clear on not putting anygasoline in a common rail diesel.

how did it get so much soot in the first place? what was the problem?

Im on the fence about tricking the ecu. I wanted to save the effort of pulling the filter but i think thats going to be the best way, i have already picked up the dpf gaskets from the dealer, just need to start turning wrenches. Has anyone had any luck cleaning the filter on their own? How long does it take to pull one with proper tools and a lift?

VW is pretty clear on not putting anygasoline in a common rail diesel.

I am aware of what VW states mikeme.

Experience with my own research + use of gasoline/kerosene blends to fuels brings a part solution.

In the old days the cars ran up to one gallon permissible by the repair manual and I ran a couple gallons with no issue.
Now the tolerances are much more strict due to knock sensors looking for that special ping spot.

The difference is knowing what levels are permissible and nowadays people are just uneducated.

I don't say things I haven't verified for many miles/years........... by just shooting my mouth off.

I think tricking the regen is a bad way to do this and would rather do a chemical clean myself.

Magical Chemicals:

Really is amazing what foaming oven cleaner will do post turbo charger injected with hand spray bottle........... then a garden hose rinse into a bucket out the tail pipe...... with a rag to collect all the ash ( to remediate )..........Air dry that shit and go drive.

I like taking the flapper out after the cat for a manual cleaning/lube and put the bucket there while car is on Jack stands.

I use BG 244 and 248 for diesel fuel on regular basis with good results. I have customer that regularly drives in hot / cold climate (Florida / Colorado / New York) and never had a fuel related problem. I also have to mention this car (2001 Jetta) has well over 700,000 miles. So, not a new car.

Oh yeah we run them............the AHU/ALH is much more forgiving and will run on many things concentrated/diluted forever.
This in my opinion is the ICON of TDI reliability.

I have seen TDI's of this series break 1 million K and not ever need a head gasket!

Yes, I recently did valve cover on this ALH AND the cam looked like new. We are using QUARTZ INEO MC3 5W40 oil and BG MOA Oil Additive with Mann / Mahle oil filters.

Been using the BG stuff for like 25 years already and many of there products are very good.
I particularly like the MGC stuff for gears and asked them to make a similar additive for engine oil...... for chains in later vw's.

I also like Castel and Kano labs in TN for the Kroil, Kreen, and Gearope lines.

You need new DPF. It is over limit.Limit is 45 and that why you can not do regeneration.
It is probably use wrong oil with lot of idling and cause this.
I have many customers with miles likes yours (105k) and soot level is around 20. I have seen cars with 150K with soot around 25. So I can tell you 100% that car was using wrong old .
