I have a 2007 Audi A6C6 4.2. My iPhone 4s has to be paired each time and I am unable to access many of the phone functions in the MMI. So I updated the MMI software first to 3360 and then attempted disc 1 of 4610. I keep getting error 152 or 156 from device. In short disc 1 will not update the Handyvorb from 700 to 999. Disc 2 installed without issue. Does anyone have any insights into what my problem might be.

Due to the lack of vehicle information - represented by an Auto-Scan - your questions are really tough (if not impossible) to answer. In general your problem lacks any relation to VCDS at this point and in fact the issues you are experiencing are 100% caused by ignoring the instructions Audi has provided for these updates. Wanna bet that you didn't even have a decent battery charger connected? It wouldn't be the first time an incorrectly applied update blows a telephone module, in that case it would be 100% your fault... But the again, this is all guessing due to the lack of vehicle information...

This might be a bit offset of your problem.
But 6 amps charger is NOTHING. I don't know how much juice your A6 needs from the battery. But I have a C-TEK MX25 charger which is able to switch to supply mode. The benefit of the supply mode compared to a charge mode is that the voltage is stable at 13,6V, as long as the charger can handle the current the car draws from the charger. On my audi A6 2012 with a lot of electrical systems, the car systems draws about 25-35 A from the battery when the ignition is on. What this means is that my charger which is able to supply 25A is actually a bit to small.
On my previous BMW 2006 5 series the current needed to supply the electrical systems with the ignition on was about the same, about 30 A. I don't know what audi says about power supply when updating control modules etc. But BMW says that you should connect a 70A (!) power supply. Thats probably (heavy) overkill, but that is what BMW officially says about this.
So I am sure that even with your 6A charger connected, the battery voltage will still drop after an hour or two. And I guess this update takes some time ? And as previously said, the charger will not supply a stable voltage to the system. The voltage can be anywhere between 10 and 15 volts.
I do not says that this is the problem, its probably not. But it is a reminder for all the people out there sitting in the car for hours (like myself) with the VCDS equipment and testing out long codings etc.

Thanks, that is a good heads up. I will purchase a heavy duty charger. So far I have not had the need to sit for more than 20-30 minutes attempting an update or scan. I agree it does seem to be a heavy drain on the battery.

VW official standpoint on chargers is pretty similar to BMW, for flashing VW requires at least a 70A charger. MMI updates do count as flashing. A regular Audi A6 (4F) pulls between 20-50A when the ignition is switched on depending on battery state and which control modules/systems are active. A 6A charger is indeed pretty much a joke at that point, better than nothing - sure - but nowhere near enough. The C-TEK MX25 wouldn't be my first choice either to be honest, I've done some checks using a decent oscilloscope and current clamps on those charges and most do not even reach the amounts claimed on their labels.
VW/Audi is sticking for example to Fronius chargers, yes they are expensive but they also deliver what they are supposed to. My older VAS 5900 (Fronius 25A) did reach it's limits on bigger models like the A6, the battery would slowly deplete - just while running standard diagnostics and demos on it. While their 70A solution is beyond reasonable - price wise - I ended up going with their 35A one and have been very happy with it.
That said, there is not straight forward guarantee that your issue was caused by an insufficient charger, the number of issues possibly related isn't exactly small. Using the wrong discs or reversing the order is the most common issue, after all - these are not updates a customer should even bother installing! - In order to look into this further, do you happen to have an auto-scan from the time prior to your attempt?
- What are the specific part numbers of the update CDs you have been using?
- A screenshot/photo of the exact error messages you're getting won't hurt either.
VW/Audi is sticking for example to Fronius chargers, yes they are expensive but they also deliver what they are supposed to. My older VAS 5900 (Fronius 25A) did reach it's limits on bigger models like the A6, the battery would slowly deplete - just while running standard diagnostics and demos on it. While their 70A solution is beyond reasonable - price wise - I ended up going with their 35A one and have been very happy with it.
That said, there is not straight forward guarantee that your issue was caused by an insufficient charger, the number of issues possibly related isn't exactly small. Using the wrong discs or reversing the order is the most common issue, after all - these are not updates a customer should even bother installing! Did you purchase these through Audi or did you download them somewhere and burn 'em on a disc?

I did purchase them online, they are not Audi discs, they are burnt copies. I compared them from files downloaded online they match.
The scan attached is before I attempted the update. I was able to run CD2 successfully, I just updated the CD changer to an AMI unit a couple of days ago. I still have the CD changer if I need to attempt flashing from CD1. My iphone does work in the car, I have to pair it each time I get in and the contacts import feature does not work. As for the screen image I will have to install the changer again to get one. From memory the screen would read error 152 from device. or sometimes error 156 from device or error 160 from device.

I was waiting for this question. Thing is, if the burner that authored your discs has a wobbly laser, your PC's drive may be able to follow the wobble better than the drive in the car. That's why the two binaries check OK.
I know it's hindsight, but even in 'rip off Britain' the update discs from the dealer are only £6.12...! I had a 45A SMPS connected when I did mine, vacuumed the slot before putting the disc in and was wearing gloves to prevent fingerprints.
If people are making money off these discs on t'internet, I'm in the wrong job again...

I tried running Disc 1 many times following the instructions I had been sent with the files. I had read on one forum a person had similar issues running disc 1. He ran disc 2 successfully and was then able to run disc 1. I was able to install disc 2 as per the instruction but not disc1. I was not so lucky.
