Inbound Storm

This afternoon could bring some interesting weather to RT's HQ:



With 100 km/h winds predicted, I would not be surprised if we have some outages...

Well, this is not good. Sump pump in the office basement isn't pumping:

Is everything okay now? We have pretty bad weather, too.

Yeah, the storm has passed now; it actually moved faster than predicted.

Power is on. Internet is on.

However, we got something like 6" (15cm) of rain in the space of a few hours.

Uwe: not sure what your experience has been, but in a previous life looking after a Capital city's electricity infrastructure here in Oz, the observation from users that emergency equipment was faulty invariably came after the emergency event. Of course, the appropriate time for such findings should happen long before event - and that's the purpose of routine maintenance testing!

It might have been the case that the pump capacity was insufficient for the size of the deluge - but this shouldn't cause the pump to fail. I assume that Ross-Tech pays the building owner handsomely for the privilege of printing the address on your letterheads. I hope said building owner was suitably contrite?

No, as far as we were able to see, the pump never ran at all. And yes, it had power.

He's gonna replace the pump.

We didn't have much damage. I've always had a rule on that (nominally "basement") level of the building: Nothing of value is to be on the floor.
