    Multitronic TCU replacement

    I have send a mail to Ross Tech in this regard. Could not post here first as my registration only came through this morning.

    These two TCU's have the same part number on the unit itself, But the scan shows different Id's
    I notice that the revisions are different for a start.

    Can they be made compatible? How?

    I tried to recode it to 0000001 but it was not accepted.

    The unit is locked Vehicle is a 4F A6 C6

    I do have full scans before and after

    No, VCDS can not 'make' controllers do what they were not intended to do.

    The part numbers of each controller are different enough that they will not be able to replace each other.

    - 4F2 910 155 F = Trans code JQJ - 6-Plate clutch

    - 4F1 910 155 E = Trans code HSW or JFG - 7-Plate clutch

    Not to mention that one of them is for a 2.4l 4V EU2 engine and the other is for a 3.0l 5V RdW engine. So while both TCU's hardware is the same, the software in them is rather different.

    Ok Guys help me understand here

    Both units are clearly marked 01J 927 156 JFG although The part numbers are different.

    I am told the car it came out of is a seven speed unit which should be a seven plate clutch

    Is it not possible to flash the new one to the correct firmware?

    Since the hardware is the same on both HW: 01J 927 156 JG it should theoretically be possible to flash them. However, VCDS does not do flashing, and it's not at all clear whether the dealers' tools are set up in a manner to allow this change either.

    Does anyone have an opinion on this scan.

    The TCU has been repaired by a repairer who says he can find no further faults with it. It did have loose connections to start with.
    Since the repair to the TCU after working faultlessly for a few days it
    Now the car slips into neutral frequently and the car is undrivable.

    Note the Transmission shows no fault. There were no other gearbox issues prior to the failure. The failure was that the car would not start. There were no flashing PRNDS or other gear issues. Since I had no other issues I suspect the TCU is U/S.

    I do have a second TCU which I will be trying to 'convince' is the old one. I have found someone who will copy the firmware off the old one and reflash the new one.
    Audi Dealerships here where we live in Africa are not up to speed on things like connecting to the factory data base by internet...........What can I say!

    Is there anyone who can provide some insight.

    I am able to get the repaired TCU to a state where there are no fault codes after the adaption proceedure is carried out. However after about a day driving it states jumping into neutral.

    What is actually happening is there are intermittent Can communication failures with all the other units such as the ABS.

    We are trying to prove that the problem is either in the TCU or a CAN problem .

    So today we set up the unit measuring 125, 126 Can signals and 011 /010 for a temperature input.
    As soon as the fault occurs the VCDS is kicked out and there is an error on all measuring blocks.

    Then the same faults as shown above log again.

    So the question is why does the VCDS get kicked out is that a voltage issue only??? or can it be kicked out when internal values go outside parameters??
    In othere words is the whole problem possibly a voltage issue where the TCU is loosing power intermittently?

    Or does this still sound as though it could still possibly be a TCU faulure?
    The problem is that bench testing the TCU cannot simulate temperature changes unfrotunately and I have now noted that it only starts to break down as it gets to temperature which is above 60deg.

    HELP!!!

    VCDS can loose communication to a controller if:
    - the controller's voltage drops below a level that the controller can operate at. = [Check for power/ground loss at the suspect controller]
    - there is a wiring/connection failure between the controller and VCDS. = [Make/install a new 'overlay harness' for the communication circuit]
    - another controller shorts/blocks communication between the vehicle and the VCDS tool. = [Check for loss of communication of an other controller, such as the ABS controller]
    - the diagnostic connector looses power or ground. = [Monitor(LED on the Interface) and repair power/ground as needed]
    - the suspect controller is failing internally. = [Replace controller with New unit]

    Use the Measuring Value Blocks in the gateway/cluster to view the status of the powertrain CAN-Bus, MVB Groups 125 to 129 = powertrain CAN-Bus.

    Ok Thanks,

    So My two possibilities are Power ground loss, which I doubt....But wont rule out
    and
    Controll unit failing which is more realistic.

    I have used the Measuring value blocks and these values just drop out as the CAN coms fail.

    When coms fails the gearbox starts making a noise as pressures drop off, engine starts running rough, DRNDS lighs go out completely. As soon as coms comes back.....( reason unknown).. Gearbox goes quiet and engine goes smooth. Fault codes stores are Intermittent Communication failure from gearbox.
