First post, and first time VCDS user, from the great capital of Australia (no, not Sydney) Canberra :-)

See auto-scan data below. Please note I am sorting the TPMS issue separately (have retrofitted B7 direct TPMS). I also have other B7 modifications, which aren't causing me any issues, which is why I thought I would post here are not in the retrofitting thread.

I'm more interested in the data I pulled after noticing some misfire detection. Happens when I am idling and feather the throttle.

Also curious about whether the airflow figures are ok after doing the MAF "sanity check" on the Fuel Trim Wiki page.

Consider removing FOD modified tuning and watch actual trims and faults displayed by stock ECU?

What leads you to believe the OP's ECU is not stock?

Than why are there no faults with an alleged misfire for at least random and than the respective ZYL. or is it the car needs an injector or carbon cleaning and ZYL 1 is not surpassing a permissible count past 6 in a time window over all 16 misfires?

Are there any air leaks even slight?

If it was my car and it was missing like that I'd be annoyed!

Will check for air leaks. Could be the culprit.

There were a couple of intermittent misfires were detected on a short drive, but definitely more when feathering the throttle at idle.

Have been looking at the long-term trim values (below) and the partial didn't go below -6.6 and -3.9 per cent respectively. Is this an OK figure, or slightly on the rich side?

It seems that the fuel trims aren't out enough to throw a fault code, and and the misfires don't occur often enough to throw one either.

If it was mine, I would clear fault codes in the ECU (which will reset the fuel trims to zero) to see what effect that has on the misfire counts.

Also on a naturally aspirated engine, I'd expect an air leak to have more effect at idle rather than under load, and his idle trims look great, whereas his trims under load are a bit out (especially bank 1).

Yep, after looking at the video, I thought an air leak would be less likely given idle trim is fine.

Not all air leaks are created equal are they?

Could not air with fuel vapors enter the intake via N80 or in some very rare cases by the LDP circuit if the diaphragm damaged?

Are these devices operated to reflect such sporadic behavior, does vacuum also occur under load too, you know when atmospheric change over to when load hits?


What about overall fuel volume under load and is PSI or regulation?

Have cleared all DTCs and also gave the MAF a clean. I only got one misfire on cylinders 1 and 5, and that is with me repeating the method of feathering the throttle which yielded the higher misfire counts before. Partial fuel trims are lower than before (previous values were -7.7% and -4,7% respectively.

The only issue that hasn't changed is the bad "miss" when the engine is cold. I'll log some data on a cold morning but do you have any ideas on what could be causing this? Spark plugs were replaced six months ago.

I haven't done a cold start log yet, but will.

Think I have bigger (timing chain) problems now with the values I saw on blocks 208 and 209 last night. Block 208 was -5.0 degree KW and Block 209 was -2.0 degree KW.

Update - did a quick cold run this morning and recorded 14 misfires in about 90 seconds of low speed driving. Also, block 093 showed 6 degree KW for the Adaptation Angle Bank 1, compared to the 5 degree KW when warm.

An Old school Vacuum Gauge on the inlet will give massive diagnostic value to your journey with this.

Then we have scopes, pressure sensors etc if you want to get all Star Trek with it.
