I have a Skoda Fabia vRS 1.9 tdi 2006, since the last time I used my VCDS and software updates, I'm finding I can't connect to 03 ABS Brakes as I used to be able to?
I last used VCDS in March, whereby I serviced the car, so I reset the service interval and obviously did an autoscan at the time for good measure as I usually do, I always have the HVAC motor recirc issue, a few of my fellow Fabia owners do, I think its down to a lazy motor?
Anyway, I connected VCDS to the car again last week, to find that VCDS is struggling to connect to the 03 ABS Brakes module, whereby before it was trouble free, last time it brought on the instrument cluster lights for ABS and Traction control when its talking to the module, but this time the lights don't come on at all? VCDS tries to talk to the module, and sometimes successfully connects and reports no faults, then sometime I get no response at all with no report for faults, then sometimes the controller tries a few times (I think 3 failed attempts) and moves on to the next module which is HVAC. If it does connect and reports no faults, right at the last few seconds the ABS/Traction control lights come on and you hear the ABS module humm into life, then once disconnected it stops again?
I've deleted 20.4.1 from my newish Lenovo laptop (windows 10), and reinstalled VCDS and attempted Firmware update, but it said the firmware was up to date. Ive tried deleting and reinstalling numerous times, thinking that there was a corrupt file possibly, and I still have the same issue.
I then used my Samsung Netbook (windows 7 pro), installed VCDS and am still having the same issue, I did buy a short connecting lead from Gendan here in the UK to eliminate possible pin slackness issues, but again has made no difference. Gendan advised me today to tick the "bypass CAN init" box as my car does not use CAN protocol apparently, but this didn't help either.
The only thing I can think of possibly with the car itself, was that I had no choice to go through some standing water after it rained heavily recently, the ABS module is quite high up on the passenger side of the front bulkhead, I went through the water slowly, but like someone has said who is a Skoda mechanic, if there was a fault with the ABS module it would put up all the fault lights up on the instrument cluster, these test and go out as normal when the ignition is turned on, as they always have done. I might this weekend check the ABS module plug, which is under the airbox and have a see if there's been any water ingress and check the wiring run around the general area for issues, to rule the car out.
I tend to think though that the fault might lie with the VCDS software itself? Ive noticed a couple of times VCDS is not responding, almost as if there has been a glitch, when VCDS checks 03 ABS Brakes it labour's in the module quite a long time, whereby say in Airbags it brings the light up on the dash as normal as its communicating, and quickly skips to the next module.
I've included a log to help someone help me possibly?
The following log shows on the first attempt it connects and reports no faults, I delete all codes and try again, this time 03 ABS Brakes doesn't report back the no faults outcome?
Ive been as specific as I can be this first time around, Gendan have been very helpful, encouraging me to report the issue on here.
