I tried to enbable the traffic sign detection in my A1 GB from 2019. The car has no build in navigation system (I use the available Android auto with Google maps for that). I did the following couple of settings (carefully double checked):

Code:

However, only with low success. The Traffic-Sign Mode in the driver's info display is chooseable via the menu, but it always only shows no "traffic sign available", also after driving around fo say 20km with many signs on the roads, like speed limitations or no passing signs. Any ideas? Are there any perequisites which does my car not fulfill? Did I forget something or did something wrong?

(I know that the error message about no signs available while starting the ignition is "normal" as there is no navigation system which could provide one, as the camera has not seen one yet)

Not possible without new parameters that come with the polnish tool....

You're german. Where are you from? Maybe I can connect you with the right people...

And no proper TSR/VZE without navigation system.

As Nico told you, without datatset for M Cam, there's no chance. You'll need someone who inject datatset in your cam. If we know you location in germany maybe we can help you

@hadez and AINils: I am located near Passau (not very central in Germany, unfortunately). May I contact you on a direct way somehow, as providing my contact data in a world readable forum may not be the right thing...

What is the drawback without a navigation system? I know that the detection is purely optical then and there is a short error message with ignition on. Does the optical recognition not work very well without the "database of sign locations and types" of the navigation system?

Meanwhile, there are some comercial offers of "one-way" adapters on the net, like https://www.k-electronic-shop.de/nachruesten-von-einweg
originalsystemen/AUDI-A1-GB-Verkehrszeichenerkennung-VZE-freischalten-Nachruestpaket.html . However I do not trust such a thing an inch, as you cannot control what it is doing and what is the right way back, as it is always possible for direct tweaks with VCDS. Also it stays unclear if it would set the necessary parameters of my M-cam.

Without navigation system, you'll receive an error message always when starting the car and the detection is always camera-based, so the signs to be displayed are not calculcated with navigation data + camera detection.

I'd rather skip that plan without navigation system.

Yeah you can contact me directly. Done one time a Audi A1 without Sat nav, customers knows about issue with one time fault after start car. He`s happy about 4 Month with TSR in his A1. Maybe hadez or me can give you a contact with the right tool for this function

I have to disagree on this one. Yes, you get the pretty annoying bling once in ignition cycle due to missing map data but having the map data is not a perfect solution either.
VAG has somehow made this the shittiest solution I’ve encountered. For example camera detects 40km/h limit and displays that correctly. 5 mins later the limit is replaced with 50km/h from map data which is INCORRECT! And the same repeats in most urban and country driving. 100km/h becomes all of a sudden 80km/h as it’s in map data.

Maybe this works correctly in Germany but not in Finland or in Sweden.

You're describing issues with the system design itself.

I refer to the technical fact that TSR/VZE in a whole does only work properly (what VW thinks what Proper is) with navigation data available.

By the way our brilliant german inventions are unquestionable, period.

I think you`re right, in germany we have to much Traffic Sign in some region so system works perfectly because new sign is coming every few meter on road. I don`t know about quality in countries with a lot of urban parts in it. But in germany and netherlands it works like a charm

Many owners in the UK complain that the TSR often shows the wrong speed limit - sometimes from reading a dirty road sign wrong but more often from the map data being wrong (as an example there is a road near me where the speed limits were changed 5 YEARS ago but the map still shows the old (higher) speed limit so someone taking more notice of the TSR than the actual road signs could be speeding by as much as 20mph).
