2013 Beetle 2.0 Turbo with DSG Transmission and just over 73k miles, experiencing problems that nobody can seem to figure out. It all began with a stumbling at idle and then moved to stalling at idle. Driving above idle was normal. Originally no check engine or EPC lights came on. Codes showed fuel pressure too high, too low, and misfires on all cylinders. Had the fuel pressure switch replaced. Ran great for a month and then same issue once again. Replaced the fuel pressure switch again with a new Bosch unit. Drove good for another month and then the same issues. This time I would get the check engine light and EPC lights but they would go off. Took it to a mechanic friend who said that the issue was a tear in the diaphragm on the valve cover. Replaced it. On my way home the car stalled out again. Keep in mind that all through this mess the car was showing the same codes for fuel pressure too high and too low, and misfires on all cylinders. I bought this car four years ago with 22k on it. Here is a list of every repair done so far in addition to regular services. Water pump replaced and supposedly a carbon cleaning of the valves. Fuel pressure switch, diaphragm, control module over in tank fuel pump, and the in tank fuel pump have been replaced. Also had the upper timing cover seal done due to an oil leak. I also just replaced the spark plugs and coil packs just to be on the safe side. People have told me it's carbon on the valves, crank seal between the engine and transmission, and a crank position sensor. My mechanic friend said the crank sensor checked out ok. The last time he had it in his shop he replaced the in tank fuel pump and said he drove it for two days without issue. When I picked it up it stalled on me again just like before. Now my friend doesn't want to work on it and I am at a loss. This guy has worked on these engines since day one so he is very familiar with them. My newest VW prior to this was a MK3 Golf so I am several generations behind. I'd rather not take it to the dealer but if I have to I'd like to know what I might be facing going in. I've driven the car twice in the last few months. It's just sitting in my driveway. I occasionally charge the battery to keep it up. I'm totally new here and am hoping someone has had a similar issue. I hate to just throw parts at it. I bought the software just to repair this car and it has not been helpful. :banghead: I just ran codes again and it has some new ones along with the same old ones. Here's the list.

Hi and welcome.

Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247) - Short to GND - Intermittent
This is surely an electrical fault. If the car were mine, I would start with here. Do you have wiring diagrams for this car?

I might have access to ones for a 2012 model. Not sure if they are the same. Not even sure where to begin.

First OP isn't this car under useful life warranty for 10/120K?

Are you going to try and get reimbursed for all those aforementioned repairs and this one provided it isn't for example from rodent damage or from an outside influence such as accident?

I don't see injectors or intake on this list and are they not extended for warranty even by the OEM including issues with the harness for widespread inadequacy of useful life function warranted of a safety recall?

Have you checked with EPA, CARB and NHTSA to cover yourself?

The aforementioned said by Uwe & I agree, have you ever JPPSG yet and the entire thread?

https://forums.ross-tech.com/showth...essional-Problem-Solver-Guide-quot-JPPSG-quot

Have you familiarized circuits in WD by RTFB and qualified them with load light and function of ECU stack by decade box?

You would be surprised what can be achieved with a tone generator and load light even without an RTFB to isolate and find tracks or test them.

Has anyone actually experienced a ground issue like mentioned above? If so, where were the grounds located that were problematic?

The car went back to driving normal. Cleared codes and has been driving fine for a week.

They will ALL be back shortly after some brief CAN messages............. :p

Do not worry VCDS will be there to display the conduct code messages.

As Jack stated they don't fix themselves, codes will be back. Up side runs good when it runs, so probably good mechanically.

On the WIRING thought I did not like this one.00532 - Supply Voltage B+
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100001
Fault Priority: 3
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 153
Time Indication: 0

Sometimes if alternator does not see a target circuit to battery, I,E. Alternator it can go ballistic, just a thought but alternator for some reason is not happy occasioaly, again as stated a WIRING issue. Would be interesting to look at the ripple of the alternator. Also is it surging causing fuel pressure to pulse?

Larry,

Thank you for your input. The car did go back to the problems again, and then "fixed" itself again today. Seems this is now the established pattern for whatever is going on. I ended up taking it to the VW dealer to have them check it out. I have a friend who is a tech there so I hope it will be in good hands. I've provided him all of the back story and will forward your input as well. If he is able to determine the issue I will post the outcome here. This is the newest VW I have ever owned (and the most complex). I've always worked on my own vehicles but this one seems to be beyond my expertise. I think I might just go back to driving the older VWs again.

Just wanted to update all of you. I took my car to an independent VW shop that has been working on VWs since the 90s. He could not resolve the issue but thought it might be the crankshaft seal. Took it to the dealer and they guessed the same. Said it would cost $2k but no guarantee it would fix the problem. Went to a third shop (ex dealer tech) to have the seal replaced. He questioned why I wanted to replace it and then asked for some time to diagnose. Turned out that the issue was a wiring harness under the intake manifold rubbing and occasionally shorting things out. The rubbing had caused some small cuts in the wiring. He sealed up the wires and rerouted them and the car has driven perfect ever since.

I appreciate the follow through on this one as I am having similar problems with my Tiguan and it's been an on and off battle for the last 2 years. No one VW included seems to be able ot figure it out. Lack of CEL and overall "intermittent" driveability issues.

Do you know what wiring harness they repaired? Was it the one connected to the G247 sensor? If you don't mind me asking, how much did your mechanic run you? Did they need to remove intake?
