    Talking Airbag control module

    2005 New Beetle convertible 1.8L turbo 5 speed manual Trans .Airbag control module PN: 6Q0 909 605AF HW/SW Index 06 09: AE4 220 4381-21
    I have Ross - Tech VCDS release 19.6.2 software
    if i buy a new airbag control module from VW can i set it up with Ross - Tech VCDS release 19.6.2 software Thank all for help

    Yes, should be no problem if you get the correct module (with the correct index). I really suggest you order at the dealer by VIN. Chances are you will not get the correct index if you try to buy a used one.

    Also, how did you determine the index of the current one? "Index 06 09: AE4 220 4381-21" doesn't mean anything to me.

    If the old module still talks, please post scan data from it.

    As a note you really should keep your VCDS software up-to-date, currently it's 20.4.1

    OK, so the airbag module in that scan is: 6Q0-909-605-AF/001, i.e. the Index is 001.

    If i get a NEW airbag control from VW will be plug and play or will it need more programing?
    At a minimum, it will need to be coded.

    With some cars of this vintage, you may also have to update the side crash sensors when you install a new airbag module because VW no longer supports the old side-crash sensors or requisite parameter sets in airbag modules for them. I do not know if that's the case here.

    can the coding be done with the Ross tech VCDS or only at the dealer?

    I can't thank you enough for all your help. i order the part from a California dealer today[I live on Maui I no VW dealer] ,so I'm counting on coding it right and then i can gift the New Beetle to my granddaughter
