What exactly is grayed out?

Swapping them in what kind of car? If this is the 2013 Seat Leon that you've previously posted about, I do not think it will be possible to get the car running using VCDS after a cluster swap. The immobilizer is an integral part of the cluster.

So removing the current cluster, taking all info off of it, and putting in a second hand cluster and transferring the relevant info over

Make sure you save an Auto-Scan BEFORE swapping the cluster so you have a record of the ABS coding

Since the Immobilizer is part of the cluster, this can't be done with VCDS on a car of that vintage.

I think I would try to get it repaired.

Alternatively, there are people around who can transfer the data from cluster to another.
