R8 MK1 Telephone module issues.

Hi there, got a 2008 R8 Coupe where the Bluetooth hands-free will not work. On the RNS-E unit, it says telephone not available. When I try to connect to the module via VCDS, the program just freezes. I have verified terminal 30 power and 31 ground. and had tried swapping the part (8P0862335R), as I hear that it is not uncommon for these boxes to go awry. But swapping the module out had made no changes. Other infotainment units report that they do not see it available. See Below for the autoscan.

Constant power (30) and ground (31) is ok, but You need CAN and probably switched power (15), too, to get module to communicate. Have You checked those, too?

Hello,

You may want to verify the infotainment CAN bus (High/Low) at the R36-Telephone transmitter and receiver unit. The CAN bus signal is a square wave 0V to 5V signal that when checked with a DVOM you should see the 'average' voltage of each CAN bus wire.
Typically the average of these two voltages will add up to about 5.0V. Typically there is about 1.5V to 3.5V on each, CAN H/L

Based on a little digging in the wiring diagram, the R36 is part of the Infotainment CAN bus and these CAN bus wires have a common connector (T17) a "17-pin connector, in right center console coupling station, red" according to the Official Factory Repair Information/Wiring Diagrams. Maybe there is a concern there???

That part number you have, 8P0-862-335-R, actually has been superseded five (5) times!.. So maybe it has also failed? The newest part number I can see is [8P1-862-336-A]. I would verify this with the local parts department with the VIN to be sure... because there are several VIN spits for these R36 controllers.

Hi, there is only (30-Power) and the (31-Ground), CAN bus, antennas, 'telephone bracket' and connections to the Radio and Navigation controllers.

I would suspect there is a wake-up signal from the CAN bus, based on what I see.

Were you able to check for signals at the CAN bus wiring? Also for the small amount erWin charges for repair manual, it is 100% worth it

I have verified there is 0.58v between CAN High infotainment and 4.46v on CAN Low infotainment, measured between terminal 31 on connector T54, the connector for the telephone module. I believe I removed the offending module from the car in the first autoscan. I reconnected the telephone module and modified the autoscan.txt file to do an auto-scan with the address 77 removed from it.

Yes, the 'Telephone not available' is still present. Thinking of sourcing an updated unit and trying that. Am planning on adding A2DP audio steaming capability to the car probably by hijacking the CD Changer. Don't want to use some silly aftermarket microphone to do phone calls though.

Sorry it has been a while, managed to get an updated unit for the car. plugged it in and worked like a charm. wasn't too much to do as far as making it work, just turned up the microphone gain a tad after testing it.
