Hi guys,

This error came up while I was driving home from work a few days ago. It basically said that there was a system fault with the AdBlue and that I had 650 miles before no restart. I wasn't that far from home so I managed to get home without a problem. Then, when I started the car the next day, the error didn't come back up. The error came on again when I was driving later on. I read online that I should top the AdBlue to the brim and see if the error comes back on. So I filled the tank up and the error is still present. After doing a scan the faults below have been identified.

I have read on other posts that a replacement AdBlue pump fixes the issue. I was just hoping to get some clarification before going down that road.

My car is a 2014 Audi A6 C7 2.0 Ultra with 160+k miles.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello,

You can have a look with VCDS in the Advanced Measuring Values for the AdBlue Pump Pressure, it is displayed in [hPa].

Use the 'word' filter at the top of the pop-up box of the descriptions, use "pressure sensor", the first one should be it.

Typically the reading is around 5-bar (with the pump/engine running) or in this case if my math is correct, 5,000-hPa.

Hi, Ah, okay ... That was the value in your freeze frame.
I was suggesting to have a look at the 'live' pressure, with VCDS in the Advanced Measuring Values. That way you can 'see' the current pressure and if it actually reads the expected ~5 bar. Come to think of it it maybe around 6 bar.. maybe? Either case it should not read a negative with the pump running.

You can use the [Output Tests] to run the pump too and select the [Measuring Values] for the "Pressure sensor for reducing agent" value.

Also, [-500 hPa] seems weird. It is possible the sensor would read atmospheric pressure, then you should see about [1000 hPa] at sea level. Perhaps the pump is okay and the "Pressure sensor for reducing agent" is faulty?

Let us know what you see for the 'live' "Pressure sensor for reducing agent".

Hi,

So this is the first chance I have had to go and do something with the car. I managed to do what you asked (I hope)!

The car was turned on and I'd left it running for about 10 - 15 minutes be fore doing this.

Also note that the Adblue nozzle is heated to over 100deg to prevent crystal deposits in the nozzle. You have an open circuit fault for the heater Circuit, so I would check that also.
It is not difficult to remove the nozzle and run a pump test. You should end up with approx 40-50ml in a container at the end of the test. You can also see if the heater is working or the nozzle is blocked (should have 3 jets out of it)

A bit of an update, so I managed to carry out some diagnosis. Here is what I did:

1. Removed the feed pipe to the AdBlue Injector. (It seems like it was indeed above the DPF)

2. Started the car and there was indeed AdBlue coming out of the feed pipe. It filled the container I had put out.
3. I tried to run the test for the pump in VCDS but it returned an error.

So now I'm thinking, is this error coming up because there is a problem with the pump (but the pump works when the car is on as AdBlue came out of the feed pipe when I turned it on) or because there is a problem with the injector not allowing the AdBlue to be injected into the system.

No worries, just making sure we are on the same page. Anyway I have been out to do what you asked this morning and it seems like the pump does actually activate, It seems to go between 10% and 55% activation. I tried it with the engine running first and then with just ignition on.

Maybe ..... ;) As per the Official Factory Repair manuals, the "G686-Pressure sender for reducing agent metering system" is part of the "GX19-Delivery unit for reducing agent metering system".

............. Also, [-500 hPa] seems weird. It is possible the sensor would read atmospheric pressure, then you should see about [1000 hPa] at sea level. Perhaps the pump is okay and the "Pressure sensor for reducing agent" is faulty?


The GX19 (Part number as per VIN = [4G0-131-969-H*] ) is made up of the following:
  • V437-Pump for reducing agent
  • G684-Tank sender for reducing agent
  • G685-Temperature sender for reducing agent
  • G686-Pressure sender for reducing agent metering system
  • Z102-Heater for reducing agent tank (heater circuit 1)

Also the part number [04L-131-113-J*] for the "Injector for reduction agent" has dropped and is superseded by [04L-131-113-S*].

You may want to consider updating the injector if your going to be fixing this the right way ;)
