2001 Allroad, 6MT swap and other...

Please let me know if this needs to be posted in another section, or has been addressed elsewhere. Thanks.

I have a 2001 Allroad that has a 2.7t motor and 6-sp. MT that came out of a 2000 S4, and the car will not start. Mods not native to the Allroad are:

    /
    Stage 3 parts

    6spd 01e transmission rebuilt synchros
    6spd driveshaft
    6spd differential
    6speed axles
    150,531 new motor 173,863 body
    2.7 w/ k04s from s4
    Ev14 550 injectors
    OEM Rs4 k04 turbos
    OEM Rs4 maf and housing
    OEM Rs4 side mount intercoolers
    Upgraded diverted valves
    Samco silicon hose kit
    Fuel pressure gauge
    Boost gauge
    Manual boost controller
New southbend stage 2 endurance clutch
    new rs4 pressure plate
    resurfaced dual mass flywheel
New flywheel to crank and flywheel to clutch bolts
    New OEM tranny mount
New upper end seal kit including valve covers and cam seals.
    \

The motor and tranny were taken from the S4 and transplanted into the Allroad. All else, other than above, is the Allroad, such as key, ECU, instrument cluster, etc. Here is the scan:

    Doesn't crank, or doesn't start?

Doesn't crank: The engine ECU is still looking for a TCU, has the wiring and/or coding been altered to allow cranking without the trans reporting it's in Park?

Doesn't start: Is the wiring between the Allroad and S4 engines the same? Have you done basic checks for fuel and spark?

Doesn't crank. How do alter the coding for the missing TCU?

In principle, changing the ECU's coding from 06752 to 06762 should tell it it's connected to a manual transmission, but it's entirely possible it won't accept that because the an MT ECU uses requires different software than an AT ECU.

I also doubt that this will clear up a non-cranking problem. I don't think the ECU itself has control of that in this car.

Would it help, or make life simpler, of i got an ecu from a manual car and reprogrammed it to this key and instrument cluster?

Is this reprogramming something I can do through VAGCOM?

You can certainly try the coding change, but I don't have high hopes for it.

I also doubt that this will clear up a non-cranking problem. I don't think the ECU itself has control of that in this car.

Gotta start somewhere. Able to point me in right direction of how to do this coding? Much appreciated.

On my Touran, I had to code the BCM to manual, and change the wire from the TCU to permanent ground, as per the manual cars wiring diagram.

There is probably something similar in yours, but it may be done via a mechanical switch, or the TCU/BCM - I'm not familiar with your car.

And as Uwe suggests, you may need to physically change the engine ECU to a manual version - my R32 DSG-type engine ECU would not accept a coding change, so required the correct ECU. In my case, this also corrected the ABS TCU error message - again, yours may be different. To try the coding, you have to enter the engine ECU screen, select coding and change it to the number Uwe suggested above. It will possibly/probably say rejected.
