Retrofit Woes instrument cluster b6 passat

Hello all so recently I retrofitted a rcd 510 from a 2009 tig and a instrument cluster from a b7 passat (color mfd with red dials) my car is a b6 passat highline with as much bells and whistles that my region dealer offered at the time (tire pressure warning system, heated seats, white writing mfd etc) anyways the swap went well everything works except that now I have lost certain features I had when I had the white mfd installed they are.

1. Tire pressure system only shows the symbol in the cluster but doesnt show the words on the mfd before when I pressed the button it would say partially loaded on or fully loaded on or tire pressure to low please note the b7 donor car does not have the tire pressure system.

2. My lights and vision menu as well as the convenience menu is gone so I can't set the coming home lights or choose how to adjust the mirror etc.

3. Can't activate needdle sweep I would of thought a b7 passat with a color mfd would of been able to do it.

Was told that to get these features I would need to change the can gateway in my car to the gateway that's in the b7 passat donor car how true is this?

Lights and vision menu needs upgrade from CECM to BCM.
Convenience menu requires CCM upgrade to B7 version (which also has the immobilizer data in it so need to transfer that via eeprom)
Needle sweep should be able to be activated using the 'Staging' or 'Celebration' adaptation channels in the instrument cluster.
TPMS needs upgrade to the B7 high version if you want individual pressures per tyre displayed as well as multiple tyre profiles to select from. TPMS high sits on the extended canbus which would necessitate an canbus upgrade.

Welcome to the world of 'I'll just change this one thing....oh no it means I have to change that other thing. Which then means I have to also change these things....'
Before you know it most of the car is upgraded

2. ccm well I know I will have to do without this one because of the immobilizer don't have anything that can read my eeprom and the devices I saw that can are pretty expensive

3. for some reason staging and celebration are saying function not available when I try to activate it.

4. for the tpms to show the words on the display that means I would need a gateway from a highline b7 passat that came with the tpms installed? at least for now once I see the light comes up I know its because the tire pressure is low so its ok for now.

BCM upgrade is fairly involved. It's basically a complete rewire of all the car's electrical systems as the plugs for BCM and older CECM are not the same. I'd call it a moderate to advanced level retrofit given the amount of time it takes messing around in the footwell, and then programming the eeprom for the correct lighting configuration.

You can buy an eeprom tool suitable for swapping the CCM for under $100.

If you can't enable staging via adaptation, need to modify the cluster eeprom directly.

TPMS high requires a new TPMS module which is installed behind the rear bumper.

Was reading the forums saw where you was talking about how difficult the bcm upgrade is with regard to room etc on the b6 passat you got any writeups or can you point me in the right direction to get started seems like its not worth it in my opinion but you never know.

Yes was told this by someone else so I will need to get the eeprom tool to read and modify it not a problem.

Tpms high is this the version where it shows individual tire pressures? if yes I don't really need that function would of just liked to see the words that used to come up on the mfd before like tire pressure to low or when I switch between the two monitoring modes.

also will changing the can gateway provide any additional functionality?

I haven't seen a good writeup on the BCM retrofit there is some info on Russian sites like drive2.ru.
By the time people get to BCM retrofit they're normally pretty experienced retrofitters so get stuck in to wiring diagrams etc

CCM eeprom has to be read directly from the eeprom on the module board itself, not over OBD.
Cluster eeprom can likewise be modified with the same tool.

The issue with the TPMS you have is that the B6 TPMS module (which is a part of the CCM) only talks to the cluster with DDP protocol. Your new cluster uses BAP.
So you either have to manually change the part load/full load via VCDS, or upgrade to the B7 TPMS high version which adds individual tyre pressure display in the cluster also.

Ok seen many of your posts you seem pretty involved in retrofitting your car as well did you bother to rewire to the bcm yourself? and what eeprom tool would you recommend? will look for a tpms module on ebay if you know of any part numbers that will work feel free to post is there no cecm that will support the premium cluster and lights and vision menu?

No you can't just replace the CECM.
You've installed a B7 cluster, so you need a B7 BCM in order to have those menus back.
There are plenty of eeprom tools around personally I have TL866II just a cheap one.
After saying for years I wouldn't bother with BCM to just get the lights menu back in the MFD I ended up doing it a few months ago to get High Beam Assist seeing as I had retrofitted the front assist camera.
Glad I did the menus coming back is a bonus.
There are some guys who can make you up a harness to go from the CECM to BCM wiring, but it still requires some cutting and soldering etc I believe and you also need to be able to program the eeprom which is easy to do with another tool over OBD.
TPMS is 3AA 907 273 F (there are some other part numbers which will also work)

Ok nice reading on another forum about your earlier run in with the retrofitting for the color cluster in the r36 good stuff but I think I understand everything now well I will order the b7 tpms module and the eeprom reader I will take the ccm from the b7 donor car and the bcm as well I will cut out the bcm jacks with long enough pigtails to cut and join to my oem harness and search for a writeup on how to wire it up that will be the last thing that I do as it seems as a painstaking job also what will changing the can gateway enable me to do?

Make sure you have all the wiring diagrams to compare.
Hit me up on PM I can share whatever information I have.
You will need to replace the gateway with one that has an extended CAN interface that the TPMS module will connect into.
When you replace the CCM with B7 version you will also need to rewire the steering column ELV wiring.
And also possibly update the ABS software......it's an endless snowball of changes.

I write my 2cents on CECM -> BCM swap as well.

I did that to my wife's previous car (2007 Golf Plus). Although a different platform but it was the same effort needed. Complete rewiring was needed and changing from multiple different plugs to three BCM connectors. Also relays needed to be upgraded and new relay holder needed.

It took about 2 days to do and it was a lot of work but it was not that difficult. Make the preparations well before and it is easy to just repin and check the list. I created a cross matrix excel where I had old pin -> New pin for all connections.

Like Kamold wrote, in addition to get the missing menus back, you will get some new things that are coming with BCM like high beam assist support etc.

seems like a mountain of never ending changes really thought this retro fitting was plug and play with some coding etc just doing some reading on the tpms and it seems like the module on the b7 is a direct system and the system I have currently is the indirect system will I need to change my tire sensors as well? thought it was just a matter of locating a b7 indirect tpms module and swap over.

Buy some quality time from Erwin and download the wiring diagrams for your car and for a newer Passat with BCM. You can build the information with that.

Few people confirm it to you that CCM needs to be update to BCM .
As someone mention this is not easy swap , require lot off work, wiring re-pin , immobilizer involved, Specially very good skills to be able read write Eeprom memory , because if you do something wrong you will end up with DEAD car. Form your answers looks like you are really not familiar what is eeprom and how this works.
Some things are not just like that , chnage just cluster and be done with it .
Same thing when I did Mk6 cluster to my mk5 jetta, many other things needed to be change to make it work correct with Mk6 steering and Mk6 Navi.

No I am not familiar with the eeprom I'm reading at the moment but I was solely inquiring about the tpms system read elsewhere bcm and ccm upgrade was not needed just wanted to comfirm.

Years ago I've had a Passat B6 where I've changed the CECM to a B7 BCM. There are guides on www.motor-talk.de with diagrams ect. I did it in 4-5 hours. New relays has to be installed as well. In my car I've had to extend the wires, but on another car the wires was long enough.

In order to retrofit the CCM to B7 3AA, your ABS has to have at least revision 21. I've changed ABS to 3C0 614 109 AF and got revision 25. I've ended up changing it to a KESSY one with 2 new keys.

Gateway has to changed as well.
