2004 golf tdi - readiness test failing

Hi Guys,

I need some help with my 2004 golf tdi. It is failing in "comprehensive components" test. After few trips to shop, 3 smog tests and drivng it for hundred of miles, I decided to get a VCDS system and take the help of you experts. Unfortunately VCDS does not have any "set readiness" scripts for my model of tdi. So, I ran an all-scan. What I am suspecting is the Control Module for Fuel Pump (J538) is the culprit. Clearing the codes did not help. They came back in the next scan.

If I replace the Control Module for Fuel Pump (J538) and the code does not come back, will it pass smog? Do I need to have all the errors fixed? Most look like electrical errors which should not matter for smog test. At this point, all I care is, it passing the smog. It is already past due and this is my daily driver. I am in California.

Check the fuel pump relay first, I had a case with this error and the relay was the culprit.

This car is looking for stuff that doesn't exist as it came from factory.... this car didn't come with power seat and there isn't a fuel pump control module, just a simple J17 relay. I don't know how the CAN Gateway got to that point. Connect to address 19 CAN Gateway, go into coding and just reapply the same 00006 coding value it already has. Exit out and then lock the car up for a few minutes. Then go back into the car and see if you can clear codes out of the control modules.

Also, if it has an aftermarket radio that ties into the CAN system, unplug it for now. If various codes clear out, mainly in address 17 and 19, then go for an extended test drive and see if the readiness finally flips for the engine.
