In the owners manual, it states that their is suppose to be a green light in the dash when auto hold is engaged. Of course, there is a orange light on the auto-hold button, but that’s not what i’m referring to. The orange light does nothing but tell me that i have the auto hold feature activated; it does not tell me whether or not it’s engaged. In EU, a green “P” (in the US, ours says “PARK”) in the instrument cluster will come on to let you know that auto hold is actively holding the vehicle, and that it’s safe to take your foot off the brake. As soon as you step on the gas, the green light goes off and auto hold disengages. My NAR Golf R doesn’t function like this, there is no indication whether or not auto hold is actively holding the vehicle. The only thing i get is the “PARK” lights up red in the instrument cluster when the E Parking brake is engaged. I can’t seem to find a setting to enable this through VCDS, I found where it was done on non-MQB cars through module 53-Parking Brake. But we do not have access to this module on the 2019 Golf R. I assume it’s in the module 03-ABS Brakes, but haven’t been able to find it. Any help? I’ve been able to complete all of the other tweaks I wanted, but i’m really stuck on this one! I have a 2019 Golf R W/ DCC & Navigation with the 7-Speed DSG.

I have seen references to said feature in the 03 - ABS Brakes coding, Specifically enabling Byte 8 Bit 1 which, from a vw-related source, has a description of "grünes P im kombiinstrument" (english: Green P in Instrument Cluster).

By no means is this a confirmed "here's what you do" tweak, since i'm not even sure the ABS module will accept that coding change. However, I imagine it could be a good starting place for your adventure.

EDIT: Byte 8 is mirrored in Byte 19 so make sure to enable Byte 19 Bit 6 at the same time, or the coding changes will be rejected anyway

Somnus: Hi. I've been reading your work with interest (and admiration) - respect! Galvanised into action by your response, I thought that I would test your hypothesis on a few hex03 modules in my MQB database. Results below:

At least based on my limited examples (by country) - your supposition looks good! Do you believe that a SA is needed to change these Bites/Bites?

Don
PS: I see from the spreadsheet in your signature that a few Bytes are "mirrored" - do you have a theory as to the reason for replicating Byte patterns in reverse order in other Bytes? The practice seems bizarre and it appears to be singularly inefficient to me.

i’m confused on how to enable byte 8 bit 1. When I go to long coding helper, it doesn’t do me any help, it wants me to type in the code changes manually. At least that’s how it is on my NAR Golf R. are you able to explain further? Thank you for the response!

MK7.5: If you select LCode2 at the top of the Long Coding Helper window, checkboxes will appear that make coding adjustments much easier

My personal theory behind this (which may be entirely wrong) is that the ABS controller uses the "mirrored" bytes as a kind of checksum to validate the coding for bytes that relate to main vehicle systems (vehicle type, front & rear brake size, steering ratio, side of steering wheel, etc.).

much appreciated! i’ll give this a shot in a few hours.

selecting LCode2 still shows nothing for the NAR Golf R. What should I do in this case? Can I somehow input it manually?

Yes, go into [03 - ABS Brakes] then [Coding - 07] and paste this code in, and hit [Do It!]
Code:
01FA6BA1502221704779030760C96980D60A84E2C0069677384250D8D2A84B0B0000000012121212B835351919323200

the exact changes I made to the coding string (if you are curious) are as follows:
Byte 8 Bit 1 > ENABLED
Byte 19 Bit 6 > ENABLED

no luck... still no green light. I guess this just isn’t possible for some reason...

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work. It's possible that the NAR Instrument cluster doesn't physically have the green P light, or some other system needs to be coded as well.

Just for my own curiosity, Was the coding string accepted or rejected by the ABS controller.

It did accept the coding string. Instead of the “P” ours says “PARK”... It will light up red when the parking brake is engaged, but does not light up green when auto hold is engaged. very odd! but I appreciate your help. Thank you

LCode2 should have launched a 2nd instance of LCH where you can select each Byte and tick/untick all of the Bits. The last time we had a customer with LCode2 issues (the 2nd instance wasn't opening at all) it was a laptop issue and a reboot fixed it.

P.S. Somnus, I agree in regards to the checksum.

I can attest to that as I have had the exact same issue with my Surface Pro

First off: sorry about the LOOONG delay.

I am not sure if you have had any luck at getting the auto hold function working, but if you haven't, could you post an Adaptation Map for your ABS module?

I have a suspicion that it could point us in the right direction

Try logging in to the ABS module with SA code 24990 and change the adaptation channel “IDE05263-AUTO HOLD functionality” to activated

I've already tried that and unfortunately it does nothing. Auto hold does work, I'm not sure why it's logged as not activated from the factory.

Have you tried changing “MAS01180-AUTO HOLD functional status” to always active as well as activating the other channel?
