Hello all and thank you before hand for any help; much appreciated.
Son has a GTI, 2008 with the dual clutch transmission. It stalled and the flashing PRNDS thing happened.
Took it to a shop and they told my son it needs a new transmission.
I've come to this place for great help in the past; perhaps not as a registered user but it did help me fix my old 1.8T Golf.
I have an eBay scanner and I borrowed from a friend a VCDS so I could save the report on the vehicle.
I changed the Mechatronic and programming was the same. Before swapping the unit, I tested all solenoids; they were all good on both units, according to a multi-meter readings. I thought the issue with the original was internal electronics and I didn't want to mess with it so I placed back the replacement unit into the DSG. New oil and filter went in and assembled everything back. This is where I learned the GTI does not have a traditional hydraulic power steering, I missed to fasten a ground cable and steering was really hard plus the light on the dashboard; fixed that issue quickly.
I did the testing indicated while the car was with the engine running and my foot on the brake pedal. went to the trans tolerance 061 then 060. Then trying the 062 Clutch adaptation, it would not do anything and report an error; it suggested to take the car for a drive so I did but then again, after 1st gear going into 2nd, PRNDS flashes, loose engagement of the transmission's gear/s and car won't move. Restart the engine and engage 1st and went around the block to bring the car back into the garage.
Second suggestion was a worn clutch so I ordered the full assembly from ECS and had a mechanic swap it. When he was done, he took it for a test drive and said it was good but at the moment of picking up the car and going for a drive to test it, same issue. 19143, 17115, 19143
Since the mechanic could not figure the problem, I took the car home.
Next thing, according to the VCDS scan, is to check the Output Shaft Speed Sensor 1/2 (G501 G502)
I cannot find any info on a part number nor the location of it so I can pull it out and grab the part number.
The full scan shows other issues such as aftermarket LED fog lights, which work but the computer reports as being out.
Please, I just need to have the car back running again.
