2019 Beetle Conv. was in a minor accident some airbags were discharged, steering, dashboard, front seatbelts and roll over protection system. One of my kids decided to drive it before it was insured so I planned to do the repairs myself. Single car accident not alot of damage, minor front cosmetics and the bags. I have all the replacement parts and started putting it back together. For some reason the windows and the top wont go down since i disconnected the battery. I tried the capacitor discharge and get intermittent driver window working the back ones not too much and the passenger side works periodically also from the doors window button not the drivers. I was told today that the roof wont go down if the windows wont go down so Im thinking I mainly have a window issue. If all else fails once i put car back together i can get the warranty work on the windows and roof but to put the rollover protection system in i need to lower the roof first. Any help appreciated.

Thx

So it would seem several items are missing from the subsystems. Here is a J519 from another 2019 NBC:

SAUCE

So the one item you have on the subsystem is the "1K0 955 559 AH" which is the Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397). In a nutshell, I would hazard a guess you've got a wiring issue or one of the missing modules is crapping out the LIN Bus so none of the modules on that LIN Bus. If this is the case, then unplugging the bad [XYZ] slave module will then allow the other slave modules to communicate.

You need to get the factory wiring diagram for your vehicle and ID just what slave modules you actually have and then start unplugging them one at a time and see what happens.

The example I show has different long coding.... unless you changed the long coding of your J519, DON'T MESS WITH IT!

To make sure Im understanding what youre saying, is the rain/light recognition sensor the only thing showing up the line of modules? Subsystems 2-6 arent? I didnt change any of the coding on anything all i did was run the autoscan.

Does Anyone know where I can find a fuse layout for my beetle? They used to be attached to the fuse box cover I guess thats no more. I went on erWin and printed out the wiring diagram and i believe its telling me which fuse size goes where and what it controls if correct then they arent matching up to what i see. Trying to confirm somewhere else.

There should fuse charts or locations in erwin that show every possible fuse for a given fuse block, how that fuse is powered and what it would be used for.

What fuses are you unsure about? SB7? SC29? What wiring diagram number are you looking at? Also, what is the complete VIN?

Don't hold me to this because I have not worked on a 2019 yet. Too new...

Opening doors windows should drop 1/4 inch to clear grove in the top.
Also should raise 1/4 inch when closing doors.
Does this work?

That is the only thing I know of that wouldn't allow top to work if windows don't.
These windows should drop 1/4 inch door open or closed. If you try and drop the top.
Window drop first then top goes down. I believe windows drop once you unlock the top.

Good Luck

3VW5DAAT5KM511631 complete vin and the file I downloaded from erWin is MEX5R011121-Wiring_Diagrams_and_Component_Locations.pdf. I was trying to check fuses associated with roof, windows front and back and the multifunction switch. I was also trying to figure out what subsystems were controlled by the BCM and if theres an order they go in as in if one goes bad does everything have an issue after that one.

The windows no longer drop like you say nor do they raise. I remember them doing it initially but that stopped for some reason. Im thinking this has to do with the address 09 local data bus 2.

One other thing. After i disconnect the battery for an extended period of time. The switch for the driver door will operate that window, the switch for the passenger door will operate its window and neither of the rear window switches work. If I do an auto scan after this neither window switch works any more.

Jef actually gave you a pretty good tip what to check. What became of that?

Also the owners manual should contain at least a rudimentary fuse diagram for the vehicle?

There are no fuse diagrams anywhere in the vehicle or email. In the manual it says they dont include them and yes i got the wiring diagram but its one of the most confusing things ive ever seen.

This should add clarity to VW/Audi current flow diagrams: https://forums.ross-tech.com/showth...ad-wiring-diagrams-the-videos-(final-version)

Edit, we have that exact PDF and a CTRL F search for SB7 (random fuse Jef mentioned above) resulted in PDF page 318 / 500 with Fuse Panel B -SB info. For example:

https://media.trillian.im/media/?m=...Ac2gadMBMFx5WZC6/IsbSZOJM4laBgbeI+JMA7gBzGw==

There's another labeled 1.3.3 Fuse Panel B -SB- layout, from July 2017 beneath that and then it moves onto the SC panel.

I have a better understanding of how to read the diagram tell me this then. How would i trace the bcm(j519) and all of its subsystems so I know what would be connected to it?

Searching for J519 would have way too many (851) search results. You would be clicking Next for a while! For that reason using the MEX5R010221-Wiring_Diagrams_and_Component_Locations.pdf diagram I (CTRL F) searched for J386 within the PDF.

J386 happens to be one of the many LIN slaves to J519 which is why I used the component identifier. You'll notice that several components are listed in Jef's good example baseline so it helps to have non-broken references in cases where nearly all of the slaves are offline.

There were several (52) search results for J386 so I found it easiest to use the advanced CTRL Shift F search function which presents you with a list of those search results. Temp screen shot search example where diagram 69/4 (PDF page 370) shows the actual LIN ckt: https://media.trillian.im/media/?m=...3LJMuK6HiEnUkjqPurFWfiDkw1rbo0QJbnJy333hs3YpP

At this point I found the Comfort system (NAR) from November 2012 diagram 96 -and- the name of the LIN splice B528 LIN bus connection 1 (in main wiring harness). Moving forward, you can check each track to see which slaves are on that splice -or- change the search to B528. Either way, that's how I would go about locating slaves to a particular master module.

I agree with the above. Your 09 module is complaining about local databus 2, which is the LIN for electric windows etc. Many of the controls live on this bus as well.
Either there is a faulty wiring or a dead module on it, killing your LIN connections. T73b/17 will go to all doors.
Suspect your MFSW and cruise control are also not working until you fix the problem.

When you say Ctrl F and Ctrl shift F is that specific only to windows? Im using a mac and have no idea how they differ to know the comparable on a mac.

Since the fault is local databus 2 would you think the issue is just with the #2 bus and both 1&2? (B549)

Also can you tell me what NAR is?

Yes youre right, the MFSW and cruise control dont work either. If its due to a dead module, when i remove it will the rest start working or would the rest still not work until the replacement is installed?

At the very least, your databus should come back to life and your BCM should start complaining about missing modules rather than faulty wiring.
Personally, I'd disconnect all the door connectors first and see what's happening. That's easier than removing the door panels and disconnect the electric window motors.
If that doesn't help, you can measure the voltage on the LIN wire. It's not an exact science, but if it is shorted to GND or completely open, it might help.
And you can disconnect the BCM and any other device living on the LIN (like MFSW) and measure the LIN voltage again. If it's still short to GND or 12V, might consider faulty wiring.
If not, re-connect BCM and then one-by-one re-connect devices and interrogate BCM about LIN status.

Or in any order you like. Systematic is the approach you need.
