2018 VW Polo steering assist crash detection query

This car has been repaired after front end accident damage. We're left with a heap of issues to resolve but my main question is regarding the crash data stored in 44 steering assist. This has shut done the power steering. From the research I have done so far, it looks like from 2018 onwards, it is not possible to clear crash data and the steering assist ECU will need replacing. Can anyone confirm this?

With VCDS you cannot fix this.

Thanks for your reply. I was suspecting that this was not something VCDS could do on a vehicle this new. I've never got involved in reflashing and simply don't have the knowledge to do this. I would be interested to know if anyone can tell me whether this can be done on ODIS (I have a contact with a licenced VAG ODIS that I could call in, but he's not sure whether he can do it either).

But from researching this forum, it looks like it can be done by factory resetting the ABS and steering assist controllers and then online recoding them.

^I'm skeptical. Official guide from VW is replace rack if crash shutdown active. So why would they offer factory reset possibility for it?

It is not just the matter of "vehicle this new". VCDS cannot access data on the VAG server farm. We are not permitted to connect. For that reason we cannot do flash processes on any control module.

Yes, ODIS would be the means to accomplish this. As the licensed product running on the VAG server farm, ODIS can draw the data needed to flash modules. To the best of our knowledge, it is the only tool that may accomplish the task. But as others have written, crash data usually cannot be deleted, reflashed and so on. At least not in air bag modules - can't say about steering...
