Is the original pre-fault coding that you listed for your own car? If so, what were you trying to achieve by changing byte 5 and byte 10?

The pre-fault coding as you put it is in my own car the one that is referred to in the first thread above.

Context,

I have only used pre-developed apps for modification of control modules through OBDEleven things like, show remaining fuel, autolock after x seconds when you leave the car taking your keys etc. I can give actual specifics if needed. These apps/adaptations are one click affairs and do not specify the long coding details.

It appears that the error came about after some of these apps were used and before I used the KUFATEC coding dongle to code for the retrofitted PLA3.0 I added to the car, as to the coding it did I am not sure other than to add the control module and parameters for PLA3.0.

There should be no harm in restoring coding values to "factory condition".

Don't even get me started on "apps" that make coding and adaptation changes to your car without telling you what they are, and without keeping some kind of log of what they actually did. :rolleyes:

Hi Uwe,

Thanks for your advice. One of the reasons I went and purchased your VCDS Hex-V2 interface from the Australian distributor was to get more details on what actually was going on in the car before and after my PLA3.0 retrofit. As you have guessed I had purchased an OBDEleven Pro dongle prior to that and used some of its apps for my model, some worked and some didn't but the details are not explained at the App level. You can see the long coding etc in the interface if you look.

Basically I decided to look at the Long Coding of the Instruments/Dashboard 17 Control Module as it said the coding was not correct. So I compared the long coding of my backup taken by the OBDEleven and then looked at the Long Coding of Control Module 17 through the various changes I had implemented via Apps and also via the KUFATEC dongle that came with the retrofit.

The only discrepancy I could find is with those two bytes 88 to 98 and 6B to 7B but I could not find any text or explanation as to what that actually means. Hence my question, if there were not errors in that module when the Long Coding was set to the respective 88 and 6B then I should change them back using VCDS and it should eliminate the incorrectly coded error. Is my logic correct??

I would reuse the entire known factory coding but if I had to take a guess Byte 5, Bit 4 (labeled Park/Steer Assist installed with VCDS) would be more likely than Byte 10, Bit 4 (Display 'Volume to be Replenished). 5/4 does NOT appear to be enabled in other Passat scans with Component: PLA 3.0

Changing Byte 10 back to original did not remove the fault(s)
I left Byte 5 the same as it concerns PLA Park Assist. It may be that because I added a new control module and connections for PLA3.0 (coded by the Kufatec coding dongle) that this is not expected by the Instruments Control Module.

I noted also in my look through the modules that many PLA/Park Assist bits were not selected and that RHDrive was selected in some but not other modules. I went through and selected all that I could testing after each coding change. Same errors popped up except in ABS it came up no faults and the faults in reported then popped up in the Central Electrics.

I left Byte 5 the same as it concerns PLA Park Assist. It may be that because I added a new control module and connections for PLA3.0 (coded by the Kufatec coding dongle) that this is not expected by the Instruments Control Module

Are you 100% sure, that the kufatec dongle changed coding in [17] Byte 5 Bit 4 ?
Is it kufatec product Item no. 41780-1 you have installed ?
What manual coding/change with a tester, is explained in kufatec instructions

Out of 246 Control units I have in Autoscan files with Part Number SW: 3G0 920 7xx, none have this bit active.

As Dana wrote, I would try to remove Byte 5 Bit 4, then Bus rest etc.
Is the DTC gone ?

You can also test coding in [17], Byte 13 Bit 0

NETech is right. Byte 5 bit 4 PLA is for PLA2.0 and that needs to be unchecked with PLA3.0.

PLA3.0 bit is byte 13 bit 0 as NETech wrote.

So uncheck byte5 BIT 4 and check byte 13 bit 0.

If you use the experimental coding option it shows you the labels for byte 13 as well. Normal label file does not have the explanation for that byte.

This is a correct coding for your instrument cluster

Hi NETech, I am not sure that what the Kufatec dongle changed with the coding, I will go through my backup of coding prior to the dongle being used to try to work that out. I can certainly change the Byte 5 Bit 4 and see if a) the DTC is gone and b) that the Park Assist/Pilot from Kufatec still works and report back. I will have a look at Byte 13 Bit 0.

I have now sent Kufatec at their request my VCDS scan and the Dongle Code KTC File. Hopefully they will be able to confirm what the correct coding is from the dongle and if that needs any further adjustment.

Problem solved, Kufatec analysed my scan and their dongle code and concluded the same as advised here the key CHANGE being Byte 13 Bit 0 must be activated.
