Adding to Jef's comments, something is very odd with that 5K0 953 501 CL "multiple supersession". This won't quote well at all so try to wrap it:

    5K0 953 501 CL steering column multi-switch
Part number is replaced by several parts (multiple supersession)

    5K0 953 502 L 9B9 steering column multi-switch 1 satin black
5K0 953 569 AJ electronic modul for steering 1 col. combination switch
    5K0 905 865 ignition starter switch
5K0 953 223 mounting plate for 1 steering col. comb. switch
    1K0 905 851 B steering lock
That's one hell of a list of extra parts.

Moving forward, 5K0 953 569 AJ then supers to 5K0 953 569 AL but it almost looks as if you need to verify all of those other parts are also matching part numbers? If so that doesn't directly explain the initial TCM concern because I don't see how the part number of the ignition switch and mechanical steering lock is gonna help with a Powertrain Data Bus DTC.

Sounds like the car needs an ultrasound because people are screwing around with FOD!

Jef, Dana, and Jack thanks for going above and beyond the call of duty to help out with this little blue devil!

Spent some time with car today looking at data and more inspection just to be completely certain no faults exist in car. As expected nothing out of place. Car was hit in RF corner and all the repairs look solid. Really no wiring to speak of in RF. Removed TCM in LF wheel housing to inspect and it was clean. Just to be sure scoped data lines and SCCM and TCM. As expected no faults in signals and patterns matched. Data line pins at TCM and SCCM in correct slots and tight. I see no faults with this car like before. I put PMI ODIS scan next to latest VCDS scan with AL part and all modules part numbers, HW/SW VERSION numbers and coding matched. Only difference being J527 P/N.

Crash picture, however car is repaired/re-assembled

Shop had picked up another AL to program lol. Knowing its was probably a waste of time I gave it a whirl anyway. Surprise surprise fault 18275 set in trans. Hunted all over car to make sure no aftermarket electronics and none fitted to car. Had shop drive car a ways but fault still wouldn't unlatch to clear. I really have no idea what "missing message" from J527 trans is expecting to see. I should also mention all the column switches function, wipers, signals, lights etc... The thought crossed our mind if we could find a tsb for trans possibly we could flash the garbage out of it. No such luck not appears this trans has no updates.

Jef "Or due to how super rare it is, this was a factory "hack job" to get a very limited run of vehicles out the door since 99.9% of Tiguans are not stripped down like this.... and now the parts departments has no info on said hack"

Jef I think this is hilarious but very possibly true. This car was a total cast off anomaly given lack of options, strange part numbers and crazy supers. Otherwise ya could be an issue with TCM but I'm just not willing to go there without a solid baseline J527. Still possible code was pre-existing to repairs and clockspring replacement. Would simply be a massive coincidence. I looked at shops pre scan and it was completely botched. Only 5 modules reported and no codes. Seems they didn't configure scan tool right or something. So the door is shut on the pre-existing debate.

Dana I think you observation with all the steering column part supersession is brilliant. If I'm understanding you right your saying what if the AL J527 needs the updated switches to be compatible to the car."

    Dana thats a brilliant observation!

Makes me wonder if the AL would need the updated column parts to truly be compatible. Would like to think the parts catalog would lay that out but as we know they can get things twisted up here and there. I'm sort of glad I'm won't be making the call from this point forward considering who knows many pricey modules the dealer might wing at this thing.

    Jack

Great find with the ebay part! The listing says "Doesn't post to US". Not sure how I could get around that. Also I noticed the pic of part seems to be missing the clockspring ya?

I'll post a final scan up once the car gets back from dealer. Appreciate the time guys!

Well guys vehicle returned from dealer and is FIXED. I’ll post some data later today when I get a minute. Basically the dealer couldn’t produce the correct part for this hacked Tiguan so they hacked the coding. I’ll explain later...

The follow up Auto-Scan should be interesting and helpful to the person that owns the other stripper Tiggy.

Well as I mentioned earlier car is fixed.... well depends on the definition of fixed

I suspect the dealer realized rather quickly from the 5 parts they sent to client shop that legacy part wasn't an option. They ended up falsifying the coding in the J527 Steering module that vehicle is equipped with CRUISE CONTROL!!. Obviously vehicle has no such option on car or on build report. It seems the TCM missing message (18275 - Powertrain Data Bus - P1867 - 000 - Missing Message from Steering Wheel (J527) was the lack of cruise data. Given the fast turn around on this I imagine the tech sent data to VW Support of sorts and they came back with this bullet, but who knows maybe the guys a super genius lol

Evidently this car can be taught something that doesn't exist and have no ill effects. If this steering module ever looses coding some poor tech somewhere is going to have a real battle on his hands due to false coding. As a tech I find it perplexing that an OE would have to resort to this type of configuration fudging on a 2017! A final question and food for thought wonder why the TCM was looking for cruise data in the first place hmm...
