Hi all
Just joined as have a specific problem.
I have a faulty BCM on VW Transporter 2005 and have been told it is possible to replace by recoding the new one.
I have searched the forums but unable to see any simple instructions.
Please, please could someone provide me with a dummies guide, step by step on how to do this, as I have no experience using VCDS?
Thanks - and keep safe!!

Hi and welcome.

The T5 does not have a single BCM. BCM functions are split between the Central Electric Module at address 09 and the Central Convenience Module at address 46. Which of these do you intend to replace?

Please post an Auto-Scan from this van in its current condition for context.

Hi
and many thanks for the reply.
The suspect BCM is the electrics as I have faulty wipers and after changing the motor and testing the wiring and stalk can find no other faults.(Been told this is a common BCM problem)
The existing BCM is 7H0937049M and the replacement one is 7H0937049J
Below is result from the Auto Scan

Hi
When you say module 09, I can confirm there is voltage to pin 9 on the T18a plug (for wipers) if that is the same? Please let me know if I`m looking in the wrong place?
Many thanks

It's very probably that module #09 will have more than 1 pin that should have power (always on and ignition switched), you really need to visit the erWin website, pay for a 1 hour subscription, enter your VIN and download ALL the documents relevant to your van (including WDs) as PDF files.

HI
Sorry, little confused, are you calling this BCM as module 9 so I can check all connections at all pins? The wiring diagram calls this - onboard supply control unit.

If you look at the VCDS scan you can see that it calls #09 Central Electric and #46 Central Convenience, neither are called BCM so it's probably best that you stop using that TLA.

VAG often use other names on the WD, just to confuse :banghead:

In older cars where the "BCM" functionality is split between two modules at 09 and 46, the 09 was traditionally called the "CECM" (Central Electric Control Module) and 46 was called the CCM (Central Convenience Module). The former handled electric loads like exterior lighting, while the latter deal with locks, windows, and such.

Ahh, ok many thanks for the clarity.
I only checked the wiper voltages. I will check all the other connections to this 09 :o and report back.

Hi
Ok just to let you know where I am with this. From the workshop manual this particular module is called a - Onboard power supply control unit J519.
I checked all the incoming supply voltages and all ok. So ended up just swapping the unit for the replacement I got and hey presto! All working, the wipers now operate correctly.
Re ran the auto scan and all the information is the same except the 09 showing - 2 Faults Found:
00538 - Reference Voltage
014 - Defective
00969 - Fuse for Heated Rear Window (S41)
014 - Defective

I don't have a rear heated window. I tried recoding this to 04 and now get - 1 Fault Found:
00969 - Fuse for Heated Rear Window (S41)
014 - Defective

So I guess not really a problem as everything is working. :)
