I have a 2009 VW jetta, CBUA engine 2.5 liter. The vehicle had stored p0333 & p0328 knock sensor high circuit input. We had replaced both knock sensors as a pair with FAE brand parts. block mounting surfaces were cleaned with Emory paper to remove rust and debris. Sensors were both torqued to 20NM exactly with a trusted inch-pounds torque wrench. In addition, sensor instructions say to put a light coat of silicone paste between sensor and block mount surface, which was done (very light skim coat). After repair, both knock sensor codes still returned. Double checked continuity between PCM and knock sensor connectors for input, output, and ground shielding circuits, all tested at 0.5 ohm or less. Tested ground sources of pcm for good ground, again checked out fine. New knock sensors are not shorted to ground shield, and have a 4.7M ohm resistance value for both K1 &K2. On measuring block #26, can see at idle cylinders 1&5 are at .650-700 volts. Loaded engine at 1800 rpm, we can see cylinder #2 climb to around 10volts while the rest fluctuate between 5-7 volts.
So my Question is if you folks have a specification for knock voltage output for different rpm ranges, and any unexpected causes that could create a knock high input. Engine does have higher mileage (180k) but no noticeable engine noises being made, no loose engine brackets or peices can e found that may bounce against the block. Any factory specifications and know knowledge would be greatly appreciated, thanks again!!
