    Compressor Failure

Im just trying to diagnose a compressor failure on a caddy, the compressor isnt working but im trying to figure out if its just the solenoid or the compressor itself. It has the clutchless Sanden PXE.

The car originally had a G65 fault which ive repaired and regassed the system and I can see the static pressure as 3 bar on VCDS plus the compressor RPM and its showing virtually no load.

I have power at the compressor and have tested the fans which run OK so I'm wondering if there is any test that I can run on the solenoid itself or if anyone has any data values for it as Im pretty sure thats the issue.

Any help appreciated before I pull the compressor

    Thanks

    Hello,

If you have not already done so, have a look at the Measuring Value Block (MVB) group [001] for the Compressor Shut-Off Code.
VCDS will display the numerical value that the J255-Climatic control module gives for the reason the Compressor has been shut off, a value of [0], means the compressor is ON. Muse over the MVB field to display a popup of the codes.

"If your compressor shut off code is [0], check the N280-Refrigerant Regulating Valve** valve, this is what regulates the amount of refrigerant that the compressor ‘pumps’ through the system. The N280-Refrigerant Regulating Valve activation signal can be checked with an incandescent light bulb in its place. Unplug the N280-Refrigerant Regulating Valve, connect a test bulb to the connector from the HVAC controller and start the vehicle, turn on the AC and watch for the activation command from the HVAC controller. If the bulb lights and the compressor had failed to operate prior, then the N280-Refrigerant Regulating Valve and/or compressor has most likely failed."

The above was from the forum post I wrote a while ago, but it sounds like the N280 valve maybe stuck.
You could lightly tap on it with a rubber mallet to see if it starts to work.
Also have a look at the belt end of the compressor, see if you can see the nut on the hub, it should spin with the compressor, if not the compressor could be seized and the breakaway hub has done it's job.

    Hop this helps,

    drpeter

Thanks - yes checked MVB 001 and its showing 0.0 but the nut on the hub is not spinning so I guess its a new comprerssor (well a good used one anyway...)
