Hi All...

First post in a long time.

I'm having problems with my R32.
Started as a p0103, so I changed the MAF with part# 0 280 218 073 German Bosch part.
Then got p1143. so I removed and cleaned the TB. I replaced the O ring behind the TB and I realigned the throttle.
The car started hunting at idle and surging while driving. I disassembled rechecking everything looking for vacuum leaks and found a broken breather tube. I replaced it with a new one part# 022 103 474 L. I realigned the throttle.

Still have hunting and surging. CEL and stability lights lit.

Log below...

Thank you for giving it a look.
Don

I would start by checking MAF readings -- at idle, and log a full throttle run through 2nd or 3rd gear and let's see what you've got.

Also, what are the values in 01-08-032?

MAF issues are not super common on 2004 and onward vehicles.... unless there is some sort of aftermarket intake/filter installed, then MAF failures are common. :D

Thank you Uwe, will do, can you point me to the directions to do that? I'm a novice. Willing to read/study if you could point me in the right direction.

Thank you Jef same as above. I haven't used VCDS much...

Thank you both. I won't be back to the problem till Sunday next. pointers to what to read would be very helpful...

Regards
Don (Dr.Distortion) Williams

Fuel trim stuff, what I'm asking about for 01-08-032:

Uwe is asking for the data from 01-08-003.

Here's a good sanity check for the status of your MAF. Do a full-throttle run all the way to redline in a single gear (second works fine). Group 002 usually shows air mass in g/s (in many modern ECU's, consult your Factory Repair Manual for the specific group for your particular vehicle). Your peak airflow should be roughly 0.80 times your horsepower if you are close to sea level.

MK4 R32 (the best one) has the BJS engine, rated at 177kW @ 6200rpm. 177kW = 237HP. 80% of 237 is 189. So you would hope to see somewhere around 189 g/s from the MAF on a 2nd or 3rd gear pull when hitting 6200rpms. I will outright tell you... you will not see 189 g/s, but you should be decently close to it. The value will vary based on several factors... but the big 3 factors are volumetric efficiency of the engine, location of test (altitude) and weather conditions. What we are looking for is a rather low number that implies the MAF is under reporting air flow... if that is the case, then the engine would run lean (too much air).

Hello everybody
Sorry for the large gap. I've been isolated for the last 3 months and had no chance to get to the shop. I will be proceeding where I left off...
Thank you for understanding.

Hi folks,

I've got a log, but seem not to have permission to create an attachment.

It's an excel workbook.

I put the original MAF back in and still get readiness 0000 0000. It is the MAF I've used for many years...

Right, we do not allow arbitrary file attachments here.

The original data from VCDS should be a .CSV file. This will open in Excel by default, but it is just plain text, and you can Open it With Notepad too and copy & paste the text here. Alternatively, you can upload it to a Google spreadsheet, share it, and post a link to it here.
