Audi A3 2.0 TFSI DSG - Basic Settings

Hi all,
Recently joined the forum so be gentle :-D
OK, had an A3 in for repair with DSG issue with the usual PRNDS lights flashing. Read codes and came up with Solenoid N88 Open or short circuit to ground.
After lots of reading up it all pointed towards faulty links inside the mecha unit so luckily I'm in the electronics game so no big issue for me.
Removed the unit and removed the cover on the ECU of the mecha unit and two wire links has become detached from the PCB..great...I thought!

So, repaired the links, checked continuity and resealed the unit and fitted it back to the gearbox.
Turned on ignition and not lights flashing, switched on engine and PRNDS flashing again. Scanned and same N88 fault appeared. So, proceeded to clear codes and then lights stopped flashing but still not Reverse gear or 1st gear, only 2nd gear, which I think is a limp mode.

So, reading further on it was suggested I perform the Basic Settings, went to group 061 and hit GO but It just comes up with ERROR., same as 062 etc etc

Doing further investigation I can see Supply voltage 1 at zero volts and Supply voltage 2 at battery voltage when engine idling...

So, where are these voltages fed from and would this be stopping the procedure of 061?

OK, just done 2 full scans, 1st is with just ignition, and 2nd with engine started. The second you will see the N88 error on the DSG but if you clear that it goes and doesn't come back (unless you turn engine off and restart)

Update;
OK, enough was enough with the mechantronic unit and its issues so I've got hold of another used gearbox from a car with build date of the same year, the only difference is the engine. The one it came off was a 2.0 diesel and the one it's going onto is the 2.0 TFSI petrol.

I have heard it will need programming, does anyone have a procedure to do this?

OK, enough was enough with the mechantronic unit and its issues so I've got hold of another used gearbox from a car with build date of the same year, the only difference is the engine. The one it came off was a 2.0 diesel and the one it's going onto is the 2.0 TFSI petrol.

I have heard it will need programming, does anyone have a procedure to do this?

At an absolute minimum, it will need to have appropriate software flashed into it. VCDS does not do that.

You could get a J2534 pass through tool, purchase a subscription to the VAG ODIS software, and jump through any hoops VAG requires to have you do the flash through your tool.

Do note, a proper J2534 pass through tool is not inexpensive. The subscription to ODIS at one time was reasonable and could be had for just a few days. Not sure that VAG still offers the short term subscription.

There is no other way to flash other than going to the dealer to the best of our knowledge. VAG keeps their flashes in their own systems and no other party is permitted to distribute them.

I'm not sure ODIS will allow willy-nilly changing of the software in a Mechatronic.

I would suppose there are aftermarket solutions for flashing them, but I'm not familiar with them.

Just a quick question, does anyone know here: If I purchased a gearbox from an identical car, same year, same engine etc etc, will the new DSG gearbox work perfectly fine in it's new location or will this once again need programming/flashing?

My understanding is that only the gearbox code that matters (such as KCZ, KNC, MSY, etc). They would come stock with matching firmware to be Plug & Play.

What I mean is that you can get one from a MK5 or MK6 Golf, or Audi TT with the same gearbox code whenever you are searching.

My clone copy of ODIS and AVDI does, but will give you a warning of a hardware mismatch and the usual warning about bricking if one proceeds. Proceeding just the same initiates, and completes the flash in the 2 cases I've tried it on. What I noticed is that the software version is updated, but the hardware version stays the same as it was before.
