Hello to all.

I've been following Humble Mechanic and I am considering doing the power folding mirror mod to my mk7 golf sportwagen tdi. However, when I went over to shopdap.com and went to the mirrors, it had a note stating that this mod may not work if you do not have the right door module. How do you know if you have the right door module? Is there a list somewhere that shows what modules support what? Does it mean anything if I have factory equipped heated mirrors?

Thank you!

Dr363305: Being a citizen from the Antipodes, I'm not the correct person to reply to your question - but there's lots of dialogue on the net by "yanks" discussing this matter (for NAR model mk7's).

The crucial aspect of the mirror dip function is for the hex52 module to have a memory facility - which is needed to record the "X"/"Y" coordinates so that the mirror can return to the correct position when the car drives forward.

The table below may be of interest - it's for cars in your part of the world (its from bbjwvr6 on VWVortex site)

Per PL24 by VIN your 52 module appears to be 5Q0 959 592 B Z0U. That supers to a newer part number but this temp screen shot may be helpful:

If you intend on using that later make sure to save it because the link will expire at some point.

DV52, I am referring to the folding mirror body, not the reverse mirror dip. Are we talking about the same thing?

Also, please pardon my ignorance. While I am an advocate of "Google It", this to me is serious and I really do not want to adversely affect my car. I use this car as my daily and I really only want to alter a few things. So, once again, please pardon my ignorance.

Since you didn't state what modification you want to perform, it was hard to answer any questions. Even now to me it is not absolutely clear what you're trying to accomplish.
If those mirrors already can fold, then tweaks including anything folding related should work. You can just try, it will not break anything and you should be able to revert it if it does not work or has unwanted side effects.

My apologies, I was under the assumption that "power folding mirrors" were separate from "reverse mirror dip" function. Please see below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4N3i5xRGU8

Now, when I head over to here https://www.shopdap.com/make-model-...or/mirrors/mk7-gti-golfr-folding-mirrors.html , there is a note saying that a lower line door module will prevent this modification from functioning. All I wanted to do was verify if my door module supports this function before spending $350 on mirrors that will not work.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for your thorough description.

From the auto-scan in the post Uwe linked above I see this:

I only copied the door module information. When you look at the ASAM Dataset for both of the modules, you see these being used:

Driver side (42): EV_DCUDriveSideEWMAXKLO 006003
Pass. side (52): EV_DCUPasseSideEWMAXKLO 006003

I marked the important part, which describe these door modules as "MAX" modules. Those to my knowledge support folding mirrors. The parts that do not support it have the letters "MIN" at the exact same position, see this example:

Thanks for the MIN/MAX tip Daniel. I also believe he will be OK but it might not hurt to firstly see if coding is accepted at all (Ref to the https://youtu.be/R4N3i5xRGU8?t=511 mark of that video) and results in the proper fault code(s) because the hardware isn't installed yet.

For instance, if either address won't even accept the coding changes then I would be less optimistic than that retrofit will be successful with the existing modules.

If we assume that the door module isn't the correct one, do VW dealerships do module upgrades if paid for by the customer? I am clearly not intelligent enough to handle buying the correct module and coding myself.

do VW dealerships do module upgrades if paid for by the customer?
Not usually, their normal assumption that that retrofits and upgrades are impossible - except where the factory makes available a specific kit.

:) I really need to change that to an actual photo of me at some point.

Dana: no offense intended, but please don't - I like the semblance of steely determination on the "lego -girl": it kind-of suits my image of RT employees and their never-ending fight for truth, justice and the American way (or am I getting this mixed-up with something I saw on TV?)!! :)
