I've been asked to look at a Golf VI and am being told that injectors are a common problem! I have no experience to say that they are common or not, hence asking. I've completed an autoscan and two faults stand out to me. [9838] Injector cylinder 2 circuit fault [N31]. [9772] Internal control module processor fault. Reading the freeze frame data this module fault occurred just prior to the injector circuit failing. The customer gave me about 20 minutes to diagnose the fault, and when I explained the autoscan details to him he replied and said just send that to the insurance company and they will pay out!!!

It does not take long anymore before you just want to throw the towel in and call it a day. I said what exactly will they pay out on? The injector, OK what if that injector is the symptom and not the cause, what then?

He agreed to bring the car back Wednesday for me to carryout tests on the system. I have the OE VW data for the A3 engine code CAYB, which is the same code as this Golf. I'm assuming they are the same setup but would appreciate your advice before moving forwards.

I'm also to understand that when testing injectors for back leakage that this test method is not accurate, would that also be true?

According to VW in the OEM data they advise to use a vacuum pump and test the decay time of each injector. I can't remember the specifics but seem to remember they advise the injectors should hold vacuum for around a minute and if not the injectors are faulty and should be renewed. Is this an accurate test? I have not run the engine and checked live data from the injectors with VCDS at the moment. Thanks for reading and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey Trade,

Did you know those faults are not for mechanical issue and indicate a bad ECU and a possible electrical fault in harness or injector that need attention, possibly a faulty ground or fuse as result too?

Did you know mechanical tests are defined in RTFB and ones that are not, they are usually done by a specialist to calibrate, test or rebuild?

Have you read the entire JPPSG thread yet?

I've printed off your JPPSG for clarification.

Step 1 covered,
Step 2 stock,
Step 3 completed and posted
Step 4 No recent repairs, coming in Wednesday next week for investigation. (already covered in previous post)
Step 5 No parts and no work carried out at this time.
Step 6 Autoscan lists the specific areas I referred to above in the previous post.
Step 7 No checks carried out to date.

Good Information Guide.

1 - I asked for guidance on this forum
2 - I think I asked the correct questions!
3 - This will be summerized Wednesday next week
4 - A check of the wiring and fuses will be carried out and then with the use of VCDS which will be used Wednesday to read live data, and I am going to use the PicoScope to read the signals from each injector, even if the engine runs OK at this point. The main area to look at here is whether the control signals from the ECU are commanding the injectors on/off, and depending upon the results I'll be looking at manual testing the vacuum holding pressure from each injector if necessary.
5 - The engine code of this Golf is CAYB, which is the same as the A3. Previously I did ask for advise on this matter but it was not replied to.
6 - yes
7 - Checking part numbers could be time consuming and pointless in this example.
8 - Would this have an effect on a cylinder misfire?

Might I suggest this video below & did you perform a battery Jesus reset yet and re-code default for reboot to see if processor MCU realigns?
