2003 Seat Ibiza 1.4 BBZ EPC Light + MAP Sensor Code UK

Hi guys, Newbie here from the UK,

Got a 2003 Seat Ibiza Sport that has been off the road for a few years its a 1.4 100bhp BBZ, UK Spec,

    It has a MAP sensor code 17961 - Barometric / Manifold Pressure Signals P1553 - 35-00 - Implausible Correlation
    and 17912 - Intake Air System P1504 - 35-10 - Leak Detected - Intermittent

The EPC light is on permanently will not clear along with an intermittent T/C light. it has a very rough lumpy misfire idle at 1000 to 1100 rpm, At idle has no throttle response at all however the car seems to increase idle slightly when using the throttle in this state I presume this is limp mode, however it will rev freely if you apply throttle as soon as it fires (with no apparent misfire at higher rpm's).

This all started after I cleaned the original TB and EGR just for general maintenance with the view of putting the car back on the road, it was running ok previously.

    So far to try and resolve this I have replaced;
EGR (New non OEM), Throttle Body (New OEM) (Both adapted after and both say OK),
    Intake Manifold (Cleaned thoroughly),
Map Sensor x 2 (One of them new non OEM the other was a used OEM cleaned before fitting),
Fixed a split leaking brake booster pipe, and checked for leaks in the common areas over and over again,
also had new plugs (OEM), ignition coil (Bosch) and a new alternator and auxiliary belt.

I have also taken the timing belt cover off today and both the belts appear to be tight so I do not suspect the broken tensioner issue that I believe is common with this engine, I do still need to check the timing however to confirm this, I just wanted to quickly check if the belt was loose.

I noticed earlier today that the MAP Sensor reading appears to still be indicating a Leak as I believe it is showing atmospheric pressure when I saved a live data log (posted below) without the engine running (I can do one with it running if this would help) I was not sure which things to monitor as you can only select 12 so I just chose a few common ones, the car had been running previously so engine was warmed up at the time.

Auto Scan 1 = Key On Engine Off,
Auto Scan 2 = Engine running at idle
Log = Key On Engine Off,

If anyone can help or give any suggestions on what to try next it would be much appreciated, will post another log tomorrow (weather permitting) of it whilst running if anyone has any key values I should monitor on this let me know, apologies for the long explanation.

    Thanks EJ

Thanks for your reply, Is that the next best step Jack, assuming you mean with a test light, i would need to try and find a wiring diagram for this, is there any in particular you would try first based on the symptoms ? i know there is an O2 sensor shorting issue with these that fry's the ECU so will check them next, another point is that the car cant complete its readiness because i cant drive it on the road (battery has been disconnected for a long period of time), could i do the set readiness option or would this ask me to drive it at varying speeds etc. Thanks EJ

    RTFB is here no?

Wouldn't tracing wires and identifying tracks with WD or Tone generator take less time than swapping parts?

Please stop using these, they just don't seem to work as a valid expectation!

Thanks for the reply & links will check them out, Yes it would Jack... if you have a knowledge of wiring and know what you are doing and looking for, I simply looked up the codes and started going through the possible causes cheapest first also based on similar issues from other forum posts, checking power's grounds and control, Load testing etc.. is definitely the first port of call for technicians and diagnostic specialists for instance (and they are right) but people that don't have much knowledge with electrics or haven't done this before wouldn't jump straight to wiring especially if it was running fine previously and they had only unplugged and cleaned the TB and EGR with the battery disconnected, The parts replaced were relatively cheap and I ideally wanted these to be at least cleaned anyway as i want the car to be as reliable as possible when its back on the road. Thanks EJ

Not seeing the logic myself but hey whatever right, it's only time versus money and now mandated time, with more money?

Now it's time to learn or go see a professional?

Yea I am trying to learn Jack, we all start somewhere as I mentioned and I appreciate the links.

Besides the car being off the road for 5 years the parts were all on the car from new its done nearly 90k miles, have been know to fail (TB) or become lazy like the EGR solenoid from opening and closing thousands of times, the original EGR was hanging before I cleaned it along with the TB and manifold so replacing them to help avoid potential issues in the future whilst trying to resolve this issue was where I started, I still have the parts so can easily sell them on and make back some "more money".

You may not agree or see the "logic" but to be fair you wouldn't really would you because you know wiring, diagnostics and ECU's etc... I just asked for some help and I am very sorry I didn't decide to check every single wire coming from the ECU first "but hey" I am not a Tech just a novice and this is not a customers car, its not about the time or money. (Why don't you pay a professional then ? Because if i can fix it myself i want too because I want to learn and get the car on the road)

We have owned the car from new it has sentimental value and owes us nothing I am tinkering in my spare time and I want to put it back on the road its as simple as that. "But hey" thanks anyway for your version of really constructive, easy to understand and very helpful input much appreciated. Thanks EJ
