could anyone shed any light on cluster swap my car is a Mk5 golf gt tdi 2008 i think my original cluster is a mid line 1K0 920 964 B i have purchased a a secondhand cluster from ebay its a highline model is 1K0 920 970, can it be sorted through ross-tech or would i have to send it to a cluster expert any help would be appreciated

Cluster serial starts with VWX. Egro, Immo 4C and cannot be done with VCDS.

That replacement Cluster is probably too old too.

*970, *971 and *972 should all be Immo4A, *973 is a bit questionable depending on the exact version, and *974 is immo4C

the safest option is to match the final digit - You would be best to find a *974, but it's still going to need special tools AND someone who knows how to use them - Be careful as there appears to be a lot of UK based locksmiths that screw things up. You could find a well respected one and see what they recommend.

Yes since this model uses IMMO IV, you would need software other than VCDS to properly pull the PIN from the cluster you purchased, once you have that, you could (in theory) use VCSD to adapt the new cluster to the IMMO.... I have other software that I use.... and for clusters that end in 973 and 974, its required to either pull the cluster apart, manually read the EEPROM, clear the IMMO data from it, install the cluster, then reload the cluster EEPROM while installed in the car before attempting to adapt it (again, you cannot use VCDS for this) - Feel free to direct message me or email and I would be happy to give more details.
