Good day:

I had an issue with the front TPMS and I took it to the tire shop. They replaced it. They say that it should auto program itself. It hasn't.

I accessed the tire pressure module and these are the results:

I am playing with the module and it seems that the sensors can give you more than the pressure, they can give you temperature, pressure, position and more.

I need assistance with the following:

My TPMS light is on.
There is a message stating tire pressure too low but the pressure is fine on all tires.

My assumption is that the sensors need to be programmed.

Any help is appreciatted

What exactly did the shop replace?

Please drive the car a few miles to make sure the sensors have woken up, then immediately make a Measuring Value map from the TPMS module:

[Applications]
[Controller Channel Map]

Single Controller address = 65
Login or security access code: leave blank
Function: Measuring Values
Output: CSV file

Please post a full Auto-Scan.

I have no clue what kind of car this is, the Auto-Scan lets everyone know details about the car as a whole, one of the reasons we want them posted. The part that was replaced, where was it sourced from? I will point out we've fielded many cases where "junk" sensors have been installed and they simply do not work with VW/Audi.

Regards.

Here is your full scan:

And to answer your question, They replaced the front left tire pressure sensor and I took the opportunity to place new tires today as well. Not sure if this is relevant but since you are asking, that is the response.

Regards.

One questions Jeff:

Assuming that the sensors are junk, (Discount Tire is the shop I used and I do not know where they source their parts) Where can I purchase the proper sensors so they can replace them for me?

Thank you for posting the Auto-Scan! The type of TPMS on this vehicle is "dumb" which is a good thing, easy to work with. I'm willing to bet you have a junk sensor. When the tyre shop stated "it should auto program itself", that is more or less correct, just worded incorrectly. I'd say generally after maybe 25 miles things should be matched up and the TPMS light off.

Since you posted the Auto-Scan, that let me do some quick digging... this car uses TPMS sensor part number 1K0 907 253 D to which your VW dealer can get.
Note, if you search for that part number, you will get a lot of Chinese replacement auto part hits.... but I think you have an idea of what to expect from those cheap things.

You can let the tyre shop toss another sensor in, but I'd not hold my breath on it working.

Few other pointers... normally the sensors go to sleep after 15 minutes or so of being parked. Test drive and hit maybe 30MPH to wake them up. The map you provided looks like sensors maybe be sleeping. As a rule of thumb, it is best to replace them in matching sets if they are old (weak batteries).

Agreed, I would interpret that map as none of the sensors currently talking.

Well, I am now starting to see the issues. The car has 3 "old sensors" and a new one replaced two days ago. After the replacement, they are not responding. I see the "tire pressure too low" message on the dash even though all tires have the right pressure. I have driven the car on the highway, but not 25 miles yet since I dropped it on the shop to be aligned.

I will go ahead and drive 25 miles it and see the results.

If, and only if, the sensors do not wake up, I want to try a plan B which is to replace all the sensors for original VW/AUDI ones. I found a set of 4 online for 100 bucks. The dealer wants almost 90 bucks per sensor.

https://www.shopdap.com/make-model-year/volkswagen/passat/b6-2006-2010/wheels/tire-pressure-sensors.html

Should I go ahead and replace them now or wait until I drive the 25 miles? Your opinion on the matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

It is "free" to get 25 miles on the odometer and there is a 0.001% chance it will resolve itself. So the 99.998% failure isn't really going to cost you anything to try. :) But I think the long term solution is to get known good sensors installed.

Well, the Mrs. took the car to work and back. The ride was 23 miles each way. The 0.001% chance has been exhausted.

I will let you know when I replace the sensors.

All four sensors were replaced by original VW TPMS sensors 1K0-998-253-D. As soon as they were replaced it only took 1 mile driving at 60 MPH. All codes cleared and no dash indicator light was present anymore.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks for the update. Did you get your money back for the CRAP sensors?

Well, they only replaced one sensor when I took the car originally, but the irony was that after I took it the second time, they replaced all 4 TPMS with the original VW sensors which I just bought brand new. They returned me the ones the vehicle had. All the sensors were different, none were the same brand. Any way lesson learned. I will get my own sensors next time. Every time I let non VW mechanic replace parts these sort of thing happen.

Never CRAP parts again!
