Ok so some reading around the interwebs suggested that the temp gauge is totally ECU driven and has nothing to do with what the ECT sensor is feeling, well not directly.
More specifically the gauge is dropped to cold if there is a fault in the cooling system and you have the P2181 either set or pending.
Sure as poop, a pending P2181 was sitting there and as soon as I reset it and cycled the ignition, the gauge worked again.
So, is my new thermostat or ECT sensor faulty or do I have some other issue.
I gotta drive the car around constantly monitoring NASA level data to fix the stupid thing.
Eff this, I'm going back to Saabs !!!
