Hey guys, looking for some help with the 4Motion on my wife's new to her 2014 Tiguan. This is a bit of a saga so bear with me! I posted this over on VW Vortex too to see if anybody there could help.
We purchased the Tiguan from my father in December and at the time of purchase there was a dash light on for the 4Motion system. I pulled the codes and found that there was no communication to the Haldex controller. I started with the Haldex ECU, pulled it off the car and found that there had been minor water ingress into the Haldex ECU (a minimal amount of road salt had crystallized on the rear of the controller). There didn't appear to be any permanent damage so i cleaned it up very carefully with rubbing alcohol and resealed everything. Still no communication to the controller. I then found a burnt fuse under the hood (a 15A fuse), replaced it, cleared the codes and let my wife start driving it again. I can't say for sure that it was working at this point.
Fast forward a few weeks to this past weekend and the same fuse has burnt out. I had already planned to do the 40k fluid service on the front and rear diffs, transmission, and Haldex diff this past weekend. I got all of the fluids changed, but somebody needs to beat a VW engineer with a dipstick for not putting a fill port and dipstick on the transmission. Anyhow, while I had the Haldex draining, I pulled the pump to clean the mesh filter. I was expecting the fluid to be a black mess. Incredibly, the fluid looked pretty clean and there was minimal build up on the pump screen. So, after cleaning, I wired the pump direct to the battery for a quick function test. It ran immediately (I only ran it for a few seconds). At this point I know the pump is functional to some extent. Next, I reassembled and refilled the Haldex, started the car, and performed the pump learn function in the VagCOM software. I could hear the pump running at this point. Put the car in gear (all 4 corners off the ground) and verified that all wheels were turning (they were). So I took it for a quick drive in the gravel roads around our farm and discovered that the AWD is still not functioning. I had a pile of front wheel spin and next to no, if any, rear wheel engagement when starting aggressively on uphill gravel roads. So I pulled the codes again. The scan is below. I am absolutely stumped as to what the issue is. I don't know if I should replace the pump or the controller or both? Or are there further diagnostic tests I can perform to isolate the problem component? Any insight you guys can provide would be much appreciated!
