I've just looked at coding 07 and I've just got 00000000's all along and on the basic settings I just have error showing on all ,

Hello John,

Coding the ABS module would resolve a number of the fault codes in this scan however I would not expect it to resolve the no-crank. You cannot copy and paste from another vehicle because a large part if the VIN is used in the ABS coding as Nicolai explained.

We are reasonably confident this ABS coding is worth testing: 11428012092700FB880E01ED90220041390000

The only way to be 100% sure would require the saved scan before lost coding ... or by sending the vehicle to the dealer for SVM coding and comparing the final scan results to our work.

If the ABS coding is rejected please let us know what the exact error message was. If it is accepted post another Auto-Scan after completing the MK60EC1 Basic Setting operations.

You may not be able to complete the G85 calibration until that vehicle starts, runs and drives but all of the other ABS Basic Settings should complete providing the vehicle is on level ground, the voltage is maintained, the Security Access code is entered as needed and the sensor(s) are in proper working condition.

This scan contains numerous fault codes that are flagged Intermittent so they should clear but the FF Voltage: 11.00 V is on the low side. I would connect a battery charger and work through the remaining MK60EC1 Basic Setting operations for Lateral Acceleration Sensor (G200), Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251).

Next, I would clear all fault codes to see which return.

Lastly, I suspect the 44-Steering Assist Adaptation values are incorrect, and the electromechanical steering rack would contain the G85 sensor, so the following pages should be helpful:

Please let us know if the rack was replaced if you need assistance with that.

I'm not entirely sure (by a mile), but I think the DSG "brake pedal depressed" condition is made through the G201 sensor. If (and again, my vehicle behaved differently) DSG requires brake pedal depressed to start, I think it might refuse to when the sensor is unavailable. Not sure, but that's my speculation, as it's the only thing in the previous auto scans that I can see preventing a start condition, aside from maybe the SAFE locks in the doors, but I don't believe they would be so configured that they prevent vehicle ignition.



well its accepted the code but i cant do basic settings as it just says error in red in all fields

Hi John,

This would usually result if the vehicle is lacking one or more conditions to be able to complete the adaptation. For instance, if you want to complete adaptation/aiming of xenon headlamps, the headlamp power output module (one in each headlight) must first be properly coded, so although the controller itself (in this example Headlight Range 55) works and functions, it would not allow the adaptation because the condition "both lights must work without errors" is not present. Same applies to this case.

I would like to clarify that you are attempting to adapt/basic settings of only the brake pedal sensor, and that you follow these instructions as linked by Dana above:
Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)

Prerequisites:

System voltage at least 12.0 V.

The other adaptations may not be possible, as they for instance could require the car to be moving or engine started, which is exactly what we're working towards.

Also, can you please clarify if you cleared all DTCs before uploading the auto scan? If you did not, please also upload a new autoscan after clearing all DTCs, as there are communication errors shown, that we need to know if resulted simply from disconnecting battery or if they are still present. If a controller experiences communication issues with the rest of the car, it is not likely to accept adaptation, nor is it likely that all functions in VCDS (as these communicate on the same wires) will nessacarely function. The fact that you see errors in all measuring blocks (this is how I understand you?), also points to communication issues of some sort.

You mentioned that you made some wiring loom yourself? Did this include CAN bus wiring? If so, did you use proper cross section and pair twisting? (If you didn't, please don't just say yes anyways - it's rather important. :) )

We receive numerous MK60EC1 ABS coding inquiries from a wide variety of Golf based configurations and all of them start and run, regardless of transmission type. Although some combo of the brake light switch and the pressure sensor may be used .. I don't think the ABS coding alone in one of these vehicles would be directly responsible.

On an unrelated note - I coded that 2010 GTI with MK60EC1 ABS (the car we discussed in the Xenon thread) to numerous incorrect configurations while experimenting with it over the years and I was only able to make it not crank once... but that had nothing to do with the ABS. Copy and pasting R8 and random KESSY equipped coding into the PQ35 BCM was directly responsible instead :)

Yep, I agree and I'm doubting this as well. I base that mostly on the fact that my own (previous) DSG vehicle never required me to brake to start, when it was in P or N. The reason I'm still questioning it though, is that I remember that with my old car, it was quite obvious that a number of factors would play in. I'll list a few examples;

- Starting the car in P or N required no further actions.
- Starting the car in R, D, S or tiptronic mode required foot brake applied, although NOT when vehicle speed exceeded ~10MPH
- If stopping and starting a moving car, while in D, key could not be taken out due to the ignition key lock, but you could restart the car in D. The DSG would then not engage any gear, and you would need to move the selector to N, then D again, and then it would engage directly, the gear suited to the running speed.
- If shifting out of P or N, foot brake is required and lock button is required, however NOT when driving more than ~10MPH, in which case neither are required. If you attempt to change direction, lock button is needed, but not foot brake.
- If shifting from R to D or vice versa, foot brake is not required, but lock button is. If exceeding ~5 MPH and no throttle input, engaging gear/clutch will not occur untill vehicle speed is less than that. If applying throttle, engaging clutch will happen instantly. If less than ~5-10MPH or if more than ~5 seconds occur before shifting out of N, then lock button and foot brake is required.

In other words; I don't think the brake pressure sensor is nessacarely directly preventing the car from starting, but with the many seemingly odd programming logics taking place in the DSG, I would not rule out that it does not throw a start authorisation untill the brake sensors are all intact. In my opinion, car should start but refuse to leave P if anything, but if OP is correct that his car requires foot brake applied to start, then maybe. It would be easy to determine via the instrument cluster as the MFD shows a message in that regard, and the green icon should be lit, but since that shows faults as well, I wouldn't trust it entirely. :)

I might very likely be wrong on this, but from all the things in the scan, and with the behavior mentioned by OP (car cranks if power is applied to starter), I would feel better if this is resolved, knowing that we would then be looking at a mechanical/electrical fault, or the possibility of the SAFE locking system, though I *really* don't think they are preventing start of the car. It's just that on some (especially mkIV) cars here in EU (SAFE equipped), there's a semi-alarm feature on non-DWA equipped cars, that they honk the horn like an alarm, if a door status is not correct. It's a long stretch, but that could theoretically also be used to disallow ignition if SAFE motor doesn't report correct status back. I've never seen it on a VAG car, but like I said, I can test on my car next time I drive. I have seen it (without SAFE motors) on a Renault though (French car), where a lady couldn't start her car at the fuel station. Turns out, she had locked the car using the *interior* central lock button and this disables ignition - great job Renault :)

I was guessing about foot brake, only because my old r32 mkv needed foot on brake with it been dsg and this been dsg, I thought it must be the same,

Yes I used waisted wires for the can , as I used wires from my old loom, making sure I used the same wires in the new loom I made,

Steering rack was changed as it was left hand drive, so I agree the steering scan showing as ok, I think has got to be wrong, but that's one I'll come back to later, the abs coding etc and the basic settings is a must so it will hopefully remove them faults and then try figure out why it will not start or crank, I had a s3 a while back similar to this, needed keys coding and even with that one needing the keys cluster etc coding, even though the car wouldn't stat as it was in safe mode, the car would still crank, when foot was on the clutch, and not. When you never depressed the clutch,
I'll go through other faults one at a time, I don't have any central locking moduels connected as I need to change them as the left hand drive ones look to be handed so will not just swap from one door to the other, and the airbag faults I'm confused about because there hasn't been any airbags gone off, the only thing I have done is fit a second hand airbag ecu from another car that didn't have airbags deployed, so I can't understand why them fault are there,

I'll go and try now and will put new scan up, many thanks agin to all and wow for sorting the abs coding for me, that did put a big smile on my face:D

3) either 01279 or ( 01423) but sure it's first one longitudinal acceleration sensor

No other changes and still no crank thanks

I do or have noticed a wire connector off near the starter motor , it's a 2 pin plug with purple and black and blue and black wires in it, any ideas on where this might go , ???i can't for the life of me see where it go's

This will clear itself basically. When the car can drive, there is a simple procedure to follow to adapt it, probably the easiest of all adaptations. So don't worry about that.

I've tried to check for this last evening, but the documentation I can find is not complete enough to make a solid, good call on it, sorry. A simple old-style tip is to simply grab the plug and systematically move/sweep it around in the area that the wiring will allow while basically staring at the plug and its immediate surroundings - you should (naturally) see somewhere to plug it into, if you follow this simple procedure and fortunately, it shouldn't have miles of wiring attached.

If not, you can purchase access to ErWin on an hourly basis, and get a better overview over the layout of the systems, or see if someone here can point you to it.

From what I did find though, this could pertain to your car not starting, as I've found *many* references for vital engine sensors when searching - but for other engines than your specific one, which is why I can't say more, that to try the above. :)

Many thanks for your help,Nicoleise I did purchase the Erwin sessions available but to be honest I couldn't understand it, ie trying to find wire diagram's for the S3/A3, I'm having a think now some cars have the stop start system how does that work on these cars, could mine have this or the loom I have on my car now, and could this be what the wire conector I've found have something to do with the starter on a stop/start car, I have had a look before putting up on here around the area where the wire conector could have gone and there dosent seem to be anything for it,
Anyone have an idea where the wire loom part no sticker would have been on this loom, so I can try to find it without taking the whole loom out to find this part number, ? I've now got it in my head that the loom might have this stop start on it and if so is there anything I can look for that will tell me yes it's got this on it, also anyone no if there would be a way I can move the pins and re-position the pins in a way to ignore this feature , I'm sure one of you guys will read this and understand what I'm trying to say and can help me figur this out, so that's another one I can tic of my list . John, I've re-read this full thread tonight and have to ask; have you direct fed the starter with the ignition switched on?

With a direct feed to starter. The car will crank fine. But not by using the key,

Also there isn't any safety device that would stop the car cranking if fuel was empty ! Is there

And on a manuel car you have to put your foot on the clutch to start the car, well what tells the car you have got your foot on the clutch to tell the car it can start, is there a sensor anywhere, ie near the starter??? Just my head working over time, I no even if a Imobliser is bad the car will still tun over or run for a few seconds and then cut out, can anyone point me in the right direction for the stater circuit on the s3 2010 and 2012 both s-tronic and manuel so I can see if there are any differance between the pair, thanks

Well put fuel in it and cranked with ignition turned on and she fired up and ran, first couple of try's cut out after a couple of seconds, so I thought my old clusters where shagged, but then it ran ok until I turned it off by the key, so a big progress there, thanks guys, I did notice the the brake pedel was hissing like made and when putting hand on the pedel it when straight to the floor, what will this be guys, and lith leaves me wire trying to understand the ignition side of it, I no there is a big green and black wire that when turning ignition on brings a live feed to a relay that should put a live feed to a large red wire which it dose not, how dose a relay work (643) that's if it's the right one for that curcuit , many thanks for you help and input, please keep it up thanks john
