2011 Audi A3 TDI, engine swapped, car won't move

All,

Swapped the engine in a 2011 A3 TDI. Engine starts and runs fine:
-At first when I would shift it into gear the car would stall. So I pulled the battery ground to reset the ecu.
-Then when I would shift into gear the engine would load up very slightly but the car would not move.
-Then I did the steps outlined here: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/6-Speed_Direct_Shift_Gearbox_(DSG/02E)
-Now when I shift into gear I get very slight loading when I let off the brake. Even with the front wheels jacked up they don't drive in gear.

Car is new to me. I swapped the engine because previous one had a point in it's rotation where it would stop. Also, found the hot side of the turbo was destroyed when pulling it.

Don't know if trans is damaged internally... Not sure how I can determine that.

There is no shame in admitting you overlooked something obvious; it happens to all of us at times. I'd also like to leave the thread available to search engines because it might help some other person in the future.

That's actually a really good outcome... compared to the other options. Admitting "guilt" or mistakes is an honourable characteristic too.

A local guy here had the timing chain fail on his (barely out of warranty) Nissan Navara ute, and the sudden stopping of the engine destroyed the auto transmission too....

NZ$29,000 to repair (US$19,000)... So he put one of those Nissan V8's in instead :thumbs:
