Hi,

I'm trying to install the front fog lamps; I've already ordered & received the fog lamp kits & wiring. I now need to ensure my BCM (Part No SW: 5Q0 937 084 DA HW: 5Q0 937 084 CD) is compatible and also find out which LDS to order. My existing LDS (shown in the pic does not support front fogs).

I'm also trying to install paddle shifters and understand this may require a steering wheel upgrade. I do not wish to spend a lot on the R-line wheel so trying to see if there's steering wheel similar to my existing one (shown in the pic) that comes with paddles.

regards,

Nitin

all BCMs support front fogs so you're good.

if your steering wheel already has buttons like in the picture, paddles can be added no problems, they might even work straight away. if they don't it is a single adaptation in the gateway.
note: removing the black trim from the steering wheel is VERY DIFFICULT and 99% you'll break it. I suggest replacing the whole steering wheel and rotate yours on the used market.

all BCMs support front fogs so you're good.

The other confusion I have is on the switch. There are several switches (LDS) with different part codes, such as 3C8941431, 5ED941431D etc.

if your steering wheel already has buttons like in the picture, paddles can be added no problems, they might even work straight away. if they don't it is a single adaptation in the gateway.

My existing steering is exactly as shown in the picture. How is it possible to attach paddle shifters? Please help me with the part numbers.

note: removing the black trim from the steering wheel is VERY DIFFICULT and 99% you'll break it. I suggest replacing the whole steering wheel and rotate yours on the used market.

Please help me with the part number of a similarly shaped steering. How about Golf Altrack steering? I comes with paddle shifters and has the same shape, which means I can reuse my existing airbag, saving some significant cash. I love the R-line steering but I'll need to purchase the steering and the airbag, adding to cost.

I might have talked too soon. all MID and HIGH BCMs support front fogs but you seem to have a LOW, which would need replacing. I am not totally sure, the best way to know would be to pull it out and check if the relevant pins are present.

for all the rest, I have very limited internet access for a couple of days as I am in the middle of the ocean, I'll get back to you asap.

Interesting, because the care has driver assistance package & sound/vision package. Is there any way to tell from the part number whether or not this is a low/mid/high bcm?

Sure! eagerly waiting to hear on the paddles/steering. :)

My existing light switch (LDS) is exactly as shown in the pic above. So is my steering. :)

BCM needs to be replaced with 5Q0 937 084 DD, this would also facilitate other retrofits. honestly I am not completely sure, as there is no way to tell from the part number, but the higher BCM for your VIN is DD, and that's always the HIGH, the most complete. if you want to know if yours supports the fog lights, take it out and look if the relative pin is present.

light switch is 5G0 941 431 BD WZU, without any doubt. same I retrofitted (I lacked the AUTO position).

steering wheel is 5G0 419 091 GE, has the cruise control buttons and the paddle shifters.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm pretty sure the BCM swap is not a straight forward one. Any suggestions? Have you personally done a BCM upgrade?

The light switch seems like the one I already have, I thought I required the LDS with "Auto" on top and the "OFF" position on the left side.

Any recommendation on a seller, I can see lots on ebay but cant tell between genuine and counterfeit.

of course I upgraded my BCM, the MID one I had from stock did not support heated seats. if you search the forum there was another guy retrofitting heated seats and I walked him through the BCM swap process step by step. you'll need a session with a dealer.

not sure what you're saying about the LDS, if it's like the picture you posted then it lacks the front fogs and you need to replace it with the part I said.

I don't have a favorite seller, I always bought parts around europe where it was cheapest. the majority comes from wrecked cars so I wouldn't worry about being non-genuine.

about the steering wheel, I gave you THE part number for your VIN but the same steering wheel exists across different years with different part numbers. just find one that has the buttons you want and the paddle shifters, it will work.

Hello darkchina811,

Sorry to disturb you.... Would you be in a position to assist me with the fog lamp coding?

I did search online but could only find for the older generation BCMs, those with long coding, whereas in my car's BCM, the long coding is all "zeros" and everything is in the adaptation channels. Please assist me with the static cornering coding as well.

TIA,

Nitin

no problem, but since my BCM is also the old-style coding, I never researched much on the new generation. I am sure somebody will chime in soon.

anyways, did you replace it already? that was fast :P

No Its still the same. I'm trying to see if it has the required pins.

I did come across a site where someone had fog lamps on the VW Golf mk7 with the same BCM. So I'm assuming it may not require an upgrade. However, when it comes to coding, the long coding only displays all "zeros" and left everything to adaptation channels.

if that guy has fogs then yes, BCM is good for fogs. he also published adaptation maps so compare his to yours with WinMerge.

I think fog lights in german are called Nebellichts.

Quick Update:

I've purchased the fog lamp kits, wiring harness & the switch. I'm now ordering the steering, which is when I notices some have the button "CNL" while others have the icon for ACC. Are these the same? Would there be any version difference due to this?

Thanks and regards,

Nitin

the difference is between regular cruise control (CNL button) versus ACC (little car symbol). buy accordingly to your car's equipment.

Hi,

I've finally got my steering delivered

xHJ9C6Q.jpg

It matches my existing steering and vehicle configuration.

I've also purchased the front fog lamp kit for my golf mk7.5. My car came factory fitted with the rear fog lights.

The kit came with the fog light units and wiring kit. I ordered the LDS separately, which has also arrived. Its today that I realised the wiring kit that came along is not the correct one as it came with a relay and connections to the battery. Guess this must be for a non-OEM installation.

IEc26Xn.png

Would you know the part code for the correct wiring for the Golf MK7.5 wiring? I came across these, will these work?: https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/fog-lights/oem-wiring-harness-cable-for-fog/#prettyPhoto

I would also be interested in understanding the wiring a bit more. I'm aware the leads from each fog lamp unit should be connected to Pin 45 (for LHS) and Pin 5 (RHS) of the BCM. Shouldn't there be a connection from the LDS to the BCM as well or is it already taken care of, because I've already got rear fogs installed?

I tried posting the images but somehow its not appearing here

Many thanks!
