2005 Audi S4 Cabrio Weird Cam timing/No Codes though!!

Hi, I have a situation involving cam timings in VCDS. I redid the timing on a 05 Audi S4 4.2L with all new chains, guides and tensioners and checked mechanical cam gears also which was good. The issue is that the car runs great and idles great also. When i would read blocks 091, 092 and 093 (also included what the values are down below) they would show that its out of time. When I finished the timing, I rotated the engine a few times to make sure all was still in time and it was. Since the engine was ran, I pulled valve covers and put back on TDC with locking pin and still the timing is spot on.

I'm at a loss right because the car runs great though have not driven it yet as I'm to afraid i might mess something up. It revs great, no hesitation or anything of that nature.

What could be the cause. It is a cabriolet S4 and had water on the inside on driver side floor boards from previous owner. I replace the CCM with a correct one because they had one from a sedan. Ive replaced all relays and fuses under the ECU cover and cleaned all connections. I have not looked inside the ECU yet to see if water had got in but did disconnect one of the plugs to it to see if any corrosion was there but looks clean and brand new still.

No hesitation in starting. No chain rattle either when starting. Starts in one to two seconds every time no mater warm or cold.

    Possible bad: ECU?
    Cam Solenoids?
    Cam Sensors?
    Wiring?

Thanks for anyone helping me with this.

So just an update. So I went to check my 06 A6 if it shows anything with just the ignition on and all block 091,092-093 are all zero but when I look at the same blocks on my 05 S4 it show me in block 093 is not zero but -5kw and -10kw. Also block 091 and 092 shows that the duty cycle % is 5.1 on both blocks already which should be zero until you start it.

So might be a ECU problem. I'm looking into how to check to see if bad. I have it apart already and there is no corrosion at all.

Unless someone else might know what else it could be. Thanks

Assuming your 05 A6 is a 3.2 V6, those are very different ECUs and engine management systems (Bosch vs. Siemens). So I would not put much credence to difference like that, especially when observed in a static condition (engine not running).

    -Uwe-
The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

That does make some sense. I also have a 06 Audi A3 I could check that also or find someone with a 05 S4 and see if they match mine or has all zeros. Ill keep digging around and see what I can find. Thanks

I believe that's Bosch, but it's an FSI engine with a newer generation of ECU than your port-injected S4 has.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Okay I believe it is too. Ill just take a look and see what number that provides. I used to have a 04 Allroad with 4.2L but dont have any readings from that anymore.

So an update to my issue. Took the car on a drive and runs great, no hesitation, no misfires or check engine light besides the secondary air injection code only because relay is not plugged in. Weird thing is when i clear the ECM codes and go to check block 093, the timing has changed. Bank 1 was originally -6.0 and changed to -2.0. Bank 2 went from -10.0 to -8.0. Every time i clear the codes in the ECM block 093 changes. It will do it every time i clear the codes. You would think that with a -10 cam adaptation would throw a code but it doesn't. Still trying to figure it out. Might be a bad ECM already replaced the cam sensors both sides but no change.
