Hello,

I'm original owner of this car and everything worked perfectly until this keyless issue. Looking for guidance to resolve.

Beetle is exercised regularly but had sat resting in garage for a few weeks over the holidays.
When tried to start it after long rest discovered the 5 year old DieHard battery had died.
Replaced the battery and everything works _except_ keyless entry!?
Have original key fobs and car does not respond to either remote.

Tried re-programing keyless procedure in owners manual few times but no work.

Got out the trusty VCDS and tried reprogramming keyless using VCDS video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiYPmebh0fg

still no work!
found fault 01179 - Incorrect Key Programming and cleared it then retried VCDS method again but no response from car to remote.
and fault 01179 came back!
clear fault, retry VCDS method, no response 01179 is back
repeat a few more times carefully checking the steps, still no response 01179 comes back
:(

is there some different VCDS procedure that works for these older cars after replacing a dead car battery?

here's my scan

Did you mean to post a link to this video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ODt94_d6Cw

Are the batteries in the remotes good?

-Uwe-

Arggh, yes d6Cw is indeed the video I was following to try and rematch the remotes.
In my search for a solution I was updating everything and must have pasted in wrong you tube link.

Already replaced batteries in both remotes.
Checked old and new remote batteries with voltmeter just to be sure.

Did you try recoding CCM and than a default of CCM to clear keys and battery reboot of everything?

Did you verify clicker is seen by antenna in VCDS blocks?

Are you sure batteries are not installed wrong in remotes?

yes, remote batteries are oriented correctly, LED blinks when push button

I disconnected the car battery, touched + and - cables for a bit and reconnected no luck

how do I verify clicker is seen by antenna in VCDS blocks?

I dont know what you mean by recoding CCM and than a default of CCM to clear keys

Look at MVBs 014 and 015 with VCDS while pressing buttons on the remotes to see if any of the fields change at all.

Also are you setting the remote count in adaption & to be freshly attempted to be adapted after clearing and saving the new remote count after saving to zero?

I got it to work with following variation in video d6Cw.
After select 46, 10 adatp, goto chan 01 (skip chan 00)
click on the displayed chan 01 and read becomes highlighted
click on highlighted read
enter new value (2)
test, save and are you sure
then click lock button on each remote
tadah it works !

perhaps the d6Cw video needs to be updated

I'm not sure what the difference here is, except that you apparently didn't use the [Up] button form channel 0. Using the [Up] (or [Dn]) button causes VCDS to do the Read automatically. If you go to a channel by typing its channel number, or selecting it from the drop-down list, than you must click [Read].

^^^^^^^
X2 here .
It clearly say on Video , "type number in new value is how many remotes you have" , they say TEST , SAVE then click lock (or you can even press unlock it does not make difference) and car should make some conformation, Beep or Hazards( In Mk4 is it usually beep) .

I clearly stated in the beginning I duplicated the steps in the video step by step, one by one, multiple times and it did not work for me

honestly, I got it to work by accident.
in the last iteration I inadvertently skipped the reading channel 0, under 10 adaptation, and went directly to chan 01 thinking it was chan 0.
noticed chan 01 read was grayed out there but became non-grayed out when I clicked chan 01. so I figured why not try click read and do remaining steps and then it worked.
may be an issue. I wouldn't know. just relating my experience. maybe can help someone else.
