Hi Group,

I have a problem with the convertible top and suspect the rear latch motor. MVB 1,4 (convertible top switches II) value is 000011 when the top stops while opening (top all the way open, flaps up). VCDS has activation and basic settings greyed out. Is there a way to activate any of the components thru VCDS (maybe there is a login needed)?

Thanks for any help or info.

Hello,

Is there a way to activate any of the components thru VCDS (maybe there is a login needed)?

The [Output tests] is what is typically used to 'activate' certain components and the [26-Auto Roof] of the 2004 NB Convertible does not appear to support the [Output tests].

Just in case you have not seen this, we have a Ross-Tech wiki page for the VW Beetle (1Y) Roof Electronics and a video that may help as well, when attempting to diagnose these vehicles.

Hope this helps,

You've got issues with one of this:

There is a left and right side versions of these. When you open the top, this is the mech that secures the top once fully opened. Each of these mechs have 2 micro switches to let the Roof Electronics know if said mech is locked/unlocked (closed/open) position.

With 26-08-001.4 reading 000011, the left side mech, has a sticking switch, so the mech is reporting both open and closed at the same time... not good. Officially, you replace the whole left side unit. Off the record, 99.9% chance it is just needing the microswitches replaced... but they dealer can't purchase those as separate items. I'm sure some one, somewhere, has figured out a Digikey part number replacement.... but I'm not that person.

Thanks for the replies. I was also thinking that I had a latch issue however the only way I was going to check the harness and prove there is a latch motor failure was to test at the control unit (located in the RR of the luggage compartment). When I disconnected the harness it was obvious that there was water damage and corrosion. I found my problem.
