I'm unable to get Auto-Scan to complete past 52% or address 1C on my 2009 Touareg 3.0L TDI Highline (Canadian). I've tried from different devices, though all Safari. I can enter all the other modules and view/clear faults, so I do not believe it to be a vehicle problem, but I know nothing about that.

Screenshot of the problem and the version info:

Hi Adam,

If possible, please try using VCDS on a PC via USB -and- NET at some point. Doing so would help rule out the possibility that something vehicle side could be misbehaving.

Next, I switched your interface to the Beta channel. The next time you check for updates, VCDS-Mobile should download:

CB to update from 0.4508 to 0.4513;
DS to update from 0x55 to 0x57;

If you power the interface via USB wire it can be update it in the house (rather than under the dash at the OBD2 connector) using VCDS-Mobile.

Lastly, if the results are identical with the newest CB installed please try using AP mode. The interface wouldn't have internet access in AP mode but it isn't necessary as long as you aren't attempting to save the file to the cloud. Using AP mode would help rule out hotspot or router issues because the phone is connecting directly to your HEX-NET.

Hi Dana,

I updated and re-ran auto-scan in infrastructure (with Internet access) and AP mode: no difference in behaviour.

How long should I wait for it before assuming it has hung?

Here is the current info:

I noticed that the messages that appear in this location as the unit scans modules completely stop after saying, I believe, something about 22:

Not sure if that is relevant.

What's next?

Looks like it's finished with 1C and hanging on 22? Do you see "Trying 22-AWD" or something close to that just before it hangs?

If it doesn't talk to a module within one minute or so, it isn't going to.

Since we no longer have a Touareg of that vintage to test on, we'll need Shaun to chime in here with instructions to generate a debug file.

I think that it indeed was trying 22 before hanging. I can attempt to catch it, if that will help troubleshoot, let me know.

I'll wait for Shaun's instructions.

So, Shaun, what are the debug instructions?

What do the led's do when it starts trying 22, does it look like it resets? You can try making a debug log by entering debug level 001F on the options screen before you start the scan, but if the interface is resetting that is not going to help us here. Be sure any debug logs it makes are uploaded to the cloud, so we can see them. Feel free to post the doc id's here.

How do I know if it is resetting? What should the LEDs be doing/not doing? I don't have enough experience with this to know what is normal.

Thanks,

A.

Do the two leds by the button turn off for a second?

Do the two leds by the button turn off for a second?

So, the two LEDs near the button. The outer LED flashes through different colors during the scan. The inner LED seemed to be solid the entire time, except for a very brief blink, maybe. (This is in infrastructure mode.)

Note that when I first logged in today, a dataset update was available, but I was unable to download more than 6 kB of it.

I enabled debug log, and have the .edl file, but was unable to upload it in the interface. How else can I provide it to you for analysis?

How can I get you the EDL file Shaun?
Shaun has the day off today, so you probably won't hear from him until Monday.

My suggestion: Bring the HEX-NET inside where you've got good WiFi, put it in Infrastructure mode so it can talk to the server, and tell it to upload it.

Why didn't I think of that…

The EDL file is docid 0000-588B.

Also, I see that a dataset update is available: 60000055->60000057. Any chance that has something to do with it?

The dataset wouldn't directly cause communication issues. Do let us know if you were unable to download that update in the house.

In the meanwhile, Shaun should be able to review your debugs on Monday so don't hesitate to bump this back up Monday evening if you don't hear back from one of us sooner.

Can't download the update at my desk, either. Sits at 1KB/0%.

Log shows there seems to be a problem with talking to the 22 module. Can you talk to the 22 directly out of the scan? If so, can you make a debug log of that?

Looks like I can’t talk to 22 at all. Tried and got CAN failed. Docset 0000-58A0 for the log of that.

What’s next?

Do you have access to a windows laptop at all, can you borrow one from a friend? It would be good to know if this module talks with VCDS and if you can make some debug logs there.

I’m sure I can dig one up. But it will be this weekend. I don’t know anyone who still uses windows, other that locked-down corporate laptops, so it’s tricky. I think I have an old Lenovo in my storage locker that I can resuscitate.

Anything else I can do meanwhile? The provided debug log didn’t show anything?

They confirm the module isn't responding at all, but that doesn't really tell us why. It would be good to see a log of it working, to compare. If you are able to get the module to talk with VCDS, then make debug logs with level 1024 and 1048 in VCDS.
