older dongle--newer cars

Hi all,
Should my KEY-USB with latest version on my computer work on a 2014 Passat and 2017 Jetta?

I have a airbag light on the Passat and it is saying it does not see the controller. No readings possible at all. The generic OBD scan works fine with my non-VW older cars and it worked fine on my older VW's. This may be the first time I used it on our newer VW's. Not sure.
Must I move to a newer dongle or am I having an issue?

No, a KEY-USB can only communicate via the older K-Lines, while both the cars you mention require a direct CAN bus connection.
