2014 Tiguan Aftermarket NAV and Genuine RNS510 questions/problems

Hi all.

I bought a 2014 Tiguan, Trendline with convenience package (Canada) and the dealer said they would install a NAV unit in place of the stock radio.

The aftermarket NAV had some issues where it would not shut off with key and only go into "sleep" mode, thus putting strain on the battery.

We had the unit replaced and had the same problem.

I then had the dealer put a genuine RNS510 unit in the Tiguan and I Think I am having the same problem.

I do not get the "Welcome to Volkswagen" screen when I turn the key forward... the RNS510 just powers up to the radio right away.

I found this post about some older versions of the Gateways not being compatible and caused the Databus to stay active even with the Ignition turned OFF which resulted in excessive Battery Draw and failure. (makes reference to "older" units, any idea what year this problem stopped?)

I am wondering if there is a way to hook up my vag com to the car without turning the ignition on and see if the RNS or gateway is in fact still active. I will let the car sit for 2 hours after parked to be sure?

I hope someone here can point me in the right direction to either fix this problem (via correct coding or enabling things in the control units) OR help me find a way to confirm the RNS510 is not turning off and staying in "sleep/standby" mode

Interesting that your CAN Gateway shows "Status: Malfunction 0010" in the Installation List, but doesn't show fault codes (or even "No fault code found.") in the full scan. I'm reasonably confident it should show at least one fault code like "Incorrectly Coded". Let's fix that first:

You cannot use VCDS to see if a CAN controller is directly causing a battery draw, you'd need to measure Amp draw -or- use the newer VW TSB which has you measure voltage across fuses with a DVOM, but you should correct that 19-CAN GW issue as Uwe suggested first.

Next, I noticed this:

That is on the infotainment bus but I didn't run the VIN to see if it was factory installed or a retrofit. Either way, if it isn't communicating I would look into that.

You can use the LCH to code the new 37/56 unit but starting with all zeros can be tricky. Try pasting this into the new coding section with non zero WSC/Importer/Equipment numbers: 0400040204000084000C

Lastly, anything Golf based that's newer than 2010 in the NAR market should have a factory installed CAN GW that wouldn't suffer from the draw issue. You have one of the latest 7N0 series units already and that is what someone with an older 2005-2008ish car would be upgrading to.

Yeah, My 2012 Tiggy Media In device is in the center console. See if that still works both with the Aux IN and an iDevice (or USB with music on a flash drive if your car came with cable that instead).

I've done this on a 2013 NAR Tiguan (my mom's) and another. I didn't recall any issues after ticking the 37 nav box for the gateway.

Question... how long does the car have to sit off with doors locked before all modules will power down? This way I can check if the RNS510 is powered down (not sleeping) and boots up from scratch giving me the "welcome to VW screen" My wife was home for approx 30 min when I went out to do this work and the unit came right on with key (no "welcome to VW screen" )

2 mornings in a row now I got the correct "welcome to VW" screen.

This is after I checked off "NAV" in the gateway instillation list and ALSO gave the RNS510 a restart by holding the brightness left and right buttons at the top of the unit.

I will give it a few days than report back again.

NEW QUESTION....

The dealer told me over the phone what their plan is to fix the 01042 - Control Module; Not Coded fault is...

They plan on looking at the coding on a 2015 Tiguan that came with RNS510 NAV and then duplicating this coding on my unit.

Does this sound like a valid course of action?

I have it archived.

I am kinda in a tight situation, I do not want to do the dealers work for them, and I dont want them telling me "I Fd it up" (dont want to give them any excuses)

They also say they have to order a module for the back up camera ($750, they are paying the tab), HOWEVER, I acme across someting in the settings that was a check box for "back up camera without control unit"

Well, I already did that with the Long Coding Helper. I took my factory 2012 Tiguan coding, removed/tweaked the Sound System bits for your config, and pasted it above.

Edit: I just noticed the second page of this thread and that RVC retrofit. I would not add/retrofit any additional components to the vehicle until the original battery draw is resolved and that Media In unit is online and communicating when scanned. Adding any additional control modules/components will complicate things IMO.

I need to code my RNS-510 to my Tiguan (2014 Trendline)

Got a 2014 Trendline because it was the only Tiguan offered in manual here in Canada. The Trendline did not come with RNS-510, so I had one put in.

It would be significantly easier to take the coding I built for you and paste it into the New Coding: followed by clicking Do it! Providing it is accepted you could reboot the unit to see which, if any, faults return and can fine tune the coding using the Long Coding Helper (LCH).
