Hi I am trying to install a backup camera to the car.

I have wired it directly into the MMI and the car recognises that the camera is attached.

The cables I was given and have connected

Can Bus High - Entertainment
Can Bus Low - Entertainment
Black Wire from Camera into Blue connector in MMI #6
White Wire from Camera into Blue connector in MMI #12
7.5A Power Supply
Earth Connection

However I am unable to get the camera to appear on the screen when I select reverse gear.

Under Info Elect I have changed the following

- BAP-VPS_0x0B to activated
- BAP-VPS_ox0B_msg_bus to Comfort Data Bus

I have looked online and some people are using a reversing camera system control unit but the cables I was given go directly into the MMI?

Confused!

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

Luke

In 5F you need to enable RVC.
Byte 19 bit 4 needs to enabled.

VPS is for highline RVC modules, you might need to change those back to disabled.

The fact you can see it as 6C means its a highline version as it has can bus lines, not a low line, so you dont need to do Byte 19/Bit 4 in 5F

If you have enabled in Can Gateway installation list (as its showing in the list) your good.

Yes, the video wires should go into 6 + 12 in the back of the MMI, so you've done that right. There is no separate "control unit" box in the MLBEvo platform.

You've done the 2 Adaptation channels in 5F right but change this one to "Termainl 15"

BAP-VPS_ox0B_msg_bus > Set to Terminal 15

Go into Module 09, byte 38 and set bit2-3 to camera_variant_vps_installed

Reboot (3 finger reboot) the MMI and you should be good to go

Let us know

Andy

p.s. Get your VCDS Dongle upgraded to a Hex-Net or Hex-V2. Its why you cant see all the modules currently. RT do a trade-in upgrade I believe.

My apologies I only skimmed and didn't notice the RVC compact at 6C.
It has no basic settings so needs calibration, however it will still display the image when otherwise correctly configured.

Thanks

Luke

Luke: Hi.

Below is a schematic of the hex6C arrangement that I have cobbled together from a number of pages in the A3 WD:

Sv6M7Pc.png

So, here's the thing - I'm confused too about the bits that I have highlighted in your post. No offense intended, but the coax wire from J772 to J794 may be reversed if what you have written is what you actually did!!

Hi Guys,

thank you for your help so far! Checked the wiring and I had done it right but typed it wrong in the original post.

come across another little issue though,

I changed it to Terminal 15

but when i went into Module 9 - Central Electronics I came across this message

"Coding is NOT Supported by this module variant. Replacement control modules must be parameterized by using the factory tool and software-version management. Many relevent options (relating to retrofits/modifications) can be found by using the adaption function of the control module.

Any suggestions a way around this?

Thank you!

Luke: quite correct - your BCM has a zero code string (see your auto-scan) - all of the software switches that were in long coding in previous modules have been transferred to adaptation channels. I wasn't aware that the BCM ever had a "Byte 38", but I can't find an adaptation channel in my database with a name approaching "camera_variant_vps_installed" - perhaps andy can confirm instruction?

further suggestion: hex5F module IDE03471-ENG126143-Vehicle configuration-RVC_video_input check setting FBAS

Yep, make sure that 5f Adaptation is on FBAS - Good spot @DV52

Thats odd on Module 09 - What VCDS dongle are you using? HexCANUSB? or HEx-Net / Hex-V2? You may need the latter. I can certainly access a 2016 A3 Module 09 fine on a Hex-Net interface

Regarding this "camera_variant_rvc_installed" - its a drop down list, but will only show a drop down list on the newer interfaces... so otherwise go into Module 09, Long Coding, Byte 38 and Tick Bit 2 for the same result.

Sorry, above I put "camera_variant_vps_installed" which is wrong. Thats for 360Degree Cameras.

Hello!

I have the old version of the HEX cable and I think this is why I am having issues. Seen on RT that it supports up to 2015.

Ordered a HEX NET and will give this a go when it arrives in a few days and I shall let you guys know I get on!

Thanks

This is the right way do to this:

In 5F set vps activated and vps bus to terminal 15. Also set the pdc to activated and treshold also to activated. Then reset mmi and voila! No coding in bcm is needed. This because I see that the car dont have PDC it needs to be triggered...

So bcm coding byte 38 is no needed. This is only for a4 a5 q5 q7 models no need audi a3.

Try and report

Hi Guys!

Really great help and thank you!
All seems to be working now.

Coding wise, as above, I tried this and changed the PDC to activated and the threshold to activated in the adaptations for 5F.

Again thank you all and I will be trying it out over the next few days, been a great help!

Thanks,

Luke

Guys, hoping someone can help a newby with camera wire connections 2012 S5. I bought the harness from Kufatec, but directions are not the best. I need to connect the twisted pair into the Canbus connector to the right of the glove box. I finally figured out the pink slide latch to allow connector to come free from the dash. How do I release the gray electrical plug from its black housing? I know it slides out, but I don't want to damage it. thanks Ed

@Johan1: Hi and thanks for the PM. I'm not familiar with the eurocarupgrade version of the RVC, but the wire colors mentioned in your post are NOT OEM. So I cannot confirm the designations albeit I would suggest that you might reconsider the "black and white in the blue connector behind the mib MMI" (MIB is used in VW cars, not Audi). If you read @LukeLewis24 response in post #6 above, he says:

I had done it right but typed it wrong in the original post.

So, I think that you will find that his colors for the video coaxial cable are the wrong way around. On my WD in post #5 above, note that the Black wire is connected to pin #12 on the MMI (which is J794). Again, I don't know about the eurocarupgrade colors, but make sure that the screen (the copper outer mesh) on the coaxial cable is connected to pin #12 - which is black on the OEM wiring loom and which is electrically connected to earth.

I'm not sure that making this change will fix the problem of not being able to register the hex6C module in the CAN Gateway installation list. This sounds more like a CAN signal polarization error - maybe you have the CAN high/low wires reversed on the Gateway connector? Or maybe you have mixed-up the Brown and Black wires - maybe Brown is CAN low and Black is power supply earth? But I'm guessing

When you purchased the camera kit - wasn't an instruction manual included? If so, what was the manufacturer's instructions for the wire colors?

Don
PS: Admin: are the TLA s "OEM" and "MMI" sufficiently commonly-understood to warrant inclusion into the forum lexicon?

i will check later maybe you re right i have to switch between brown and black in the gateway cause the cam is not yet reached in the vcds.
Black and white in the mmi thats a fact of getting video on screen
i will update later

Thanks in advance
