02 Beetle Immo, Cluster, ECU

02 Beetle 1.8T
Problem started with LED's going out in the speedo. Next the odometer/trip display went out.
Then the immobilizer failed to read the key and the car would start/die.
Time and money (not enough of either) swayed me to have the immo delete performed.
The ECU came back and now the engine would crank (turn over), but not start/die.
Sprayed starting fluid in the airbox and the car started. Ok, no fuel. Fed 12 volts the fuel pump car started.
Traced back to the fuel pump relay, jumped the relay, car started. Changed the relay, no joy.
Fed ground to the 'Mot' (pin #1) on the FPR and the car started.
Seems to me the immo delete wasn't done correctly.
I bought a used cluster (matching part number), but need an interface.
Had a technician (not vw) come to adapt the cluster, he couldn't due to "no communication".
Bought another ECU.
Bought a Ross-Tech HEX-V2 cable and download VCDS. VCP drivers don't work with HEX-V2.
Sum it up, i have a replacement ECU, replacement cluster, a cable that doesn't support 3rd party software and software that doesn't support 3rd party "knockoff" cables. Also the radio is in "safe" mode and will not accept the code.
How do i retrieve the SKC pin for the new parts? Why is getting the SKC so difficult for the owner of the car?
How do i go about adapting the replacements with the "no communication" error?
First auto-scan is with original cluster. Second is with the replacement cluster.

OP - if you look at your secondscn it's not only the Instruments that are having intermittent trouble communicating with some modules but also the CAN Gateway.

This suggests to me the problem isn't the Instruments - but the CAN bus segment to which the engine, transmission, ABS and airbag modules connect i.e. the Powertrain CAN.

Maybe there is a bad connection or maybe one of those modules is intermittently interfering with the communications?

As for this model 0x17 and 0x19 are physically one module, it may or may not be true. In first scan IPC is bad - corrupted EEPROM content and/or MCU/flash content.
In second scan all comm DTC's are intermittent. Other modules don't have any comm related DTC's. Those may be left in memory from someone powering up IPC out of car, for example.

This is most likely from bad immo delete?

Those may be left in memory from someone powering up IPC out of car, for example.

The original cluster was never out of the car until it failed.

If You sent only ECU to tuner for immo-off, it couldn't affect cluster. It died by itself according info You provided in post #1. They use to do like this time by time.
Tuner must return Your money and revert ECU to stock SW, as his immo-off solution is not working, again according info You provided in post #1.

I was talking about scan #2 in post #1. According Your text in post #1 scan #2 is with donor parts installed.
Did You cleared all fault codes before running scan You provided in post #6?
Did You recoded GW with the same value to make it refresh internal installation list as it is installed in another car now?

Good point, I had forgotten that the CAN Gateway was actually in the Instruments on some older models.

Nothing has been recoded or adapted at this point due to the comms error and the fact
that i don't have the SKC pin.

If he couldn't do immo off correctly i do not want to send my ECU back again.
Guess i need to find someone who can flash the ECU back to stock, if that's
possible and retrieve that PIN code.

I have a feeling that You have not enough knowledge and some tools are missing, too (not all operations - relatively simple, but absolutely necessary to get Your car running again - can be done with VCDS).
So I'd suggest to contact Jack or Marin. They are located in US.

Clear codes individually in each module and see will it come back , if you disconnect cluster with Battery connected you will get this codes and CAN communication still monitor and see module was missing.
